Is anyone going to go see this movie? I hadn't heard of it until recently. When I saw the trailer I immediately thought that I had to go see it. It looks awesome. I would put a link up to the trailer here, but from what I hear, the less you know about it before seeing it the better.
... oh what the hell, this is just too awesome to not share.

We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative."
>< Bloomin internets. There are so many sites I can't access because I live in the UK. Now I know how China feels. I mean seriously, I can't watch the clips on Adult Swim that they choose to put up of their own shows that aren't even on TV in Britain, never mind available to purchase. WHO ARE THEY DOING THIS FOR?!? DX
Just saw it tonight. I cannot even begin to describe how awesome this is. If you are not trying to go see this movie, I apologize for the brain tumor that is making you retarded.
Not much of a spoiler, but you all might want to familiarize yourselves with a certain French classic.

So I have just now seen Inception. I have to say, this is a movie that you really have to be paying attention to enjoy. There is just so much going on. Definitely going to nominate this one as movie of the year!

I get the feeling that the last shot in the film was supposed to be significant. Before I registered that I wanted to pay attention to the items on the table the movie ended, so I'll have to see it again to see if I really did miss anything.
It really was a good movie. And Daryn, that's not your imagination. As far as I could tell, it was important. Although I wasn't looking much at the background, mind you. Still, worth the second watch to see if anything different jumps out

I saw it a while back, and yes, it's a great film. I actually didn't think it was as confusing as everyone says it is, or as complex even. Although saying that I never found The Matrix in the least bit difficult to follow...
The only single bit I found confusing was one point where I thought a major character had back-stabbed them, but then he carried on being a good guy, so I was like "Right... kinda misunderstood that scene"
As for what's on the table at the end, I can explain if you missed it, although it's a major spoiler, obviously.
Spoiler
He didn't know whether or not he was still in a dream (Or even in that Purgatory style world) so he spun his... ah... weighted spinning top on the table. His kids were in the background playing as he remembered them, and he went to hug them. When he did the camera zoomed into the table and the spinning top wobbled slightly, but the screen cut to black before you saw it fall. Therefore, it could have been a dream or reality :p

Right, I knew something had to be up with that.

They're leaving it up in the air. The top might have fallen over, or it might not have. That means to me that Cobb doesn't care to know if he's still in a dream. He is with his kids now and has chosen that as his reality.

I kinda quit trusting film reviewers' opinions re complexity after several described The Fountain as "hard to follow".
It's not confusing, just elaborate. It's not a half-assed movie that ya can walk out in the middle of, which makes it that more enjoyable. Ya have to dive in and immerse yaself in the story to watch it right, and most people don't.

I wonder if it's a generational thing? Younger folks like us seem to be better able to follow multiple plotlines at once, since we've been doing that for years with games. WHile folks who are older are more used to a traditional single linear plotline that goes from point A to point B to point C etc...
It's possible, although not everyone in a generation is the same. My dad could probably follow multiple plotlines well since he does similar for his job, but I highly doubt my older brother could. Although, with how technology is developing, more people are likely able to follow multiple plotlines than before.

I often wonder about this.. how do the things we grew up with (games, search engines, text editors, hyperlinks etc) effect our cognition?
(& how might our mentation differ from the previous generation's as a result?)

Exactly the point: in the past, following multiple line of thought at once was a rare talent, inculcated by work requirements or (sometimes) individual inclination.
Nowadays we all must think like this, just in order to keep up with whatever's going on.
