Uniformity
My mind when bored is restless to a fault endless coming up with strange ideas and here is my recent one.
What would happen if the Universe was not Uniform but that the laws of physics only worked in some areas with similar or entirely different laws ruling another.
So here is my condensed version of the jumbled mess of a universe in my gray matter.
The Universe as it turns out was only partially uniform. The energies the universe like electricity where the same through out the universe the laws that govern these energies are not. Some areas of the universe the laws that govern the energies of the universe are that of which we are familiar with in other parts this is not the case. The energies of the universe are in other areas subject to the thoughts and wills of intelligent beings. Allowing for things once thought impossible.
(Not an RP idea but it might turn into one should I develop it more.)
This more than anything is a Universe idea I think it would interesting to see the differences from area of the universe to another.

Um, i strongly suspect you'd enjoy these three novels if you haven't already: A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge and Diaspora and Permutation City by Greg Egan.
Sorry you've been bored lately, i'll try to turn my IM thing on more often...

if life has the conditions to form, it might not depending on if the laws work elsewhere.

Books to read. =D And I have been wondering what do people think about the idea of the different zones and areas of space and how it could be conceptualized.

Re: Uniformity
Going on what Seismic said earlier, I'd like to see what would happen in a galaxy where the gravitational constant was different from what it is for us. Had it been a few digits different, life as we know it may never have formed.

Re: Uniformity
It sounds to me like you're describing what would happen in a type 2 or 4 mulitverse. Symmetry breaking could cause different constants in level 2 multiverses, and completely different mathematical structures may exist in type 4 multiverses.
Our universe itself is uniform, all data ever gathered supports this, But what you are thinking about could very easily happen in other universes. For example, the constant of gravity "G" might be a different number in another type 2 multiverse (G = 5.2, rather than 6.67e-11), or it could be something completely and totally different in a type 4 multiverse (G = Banana Phone.)
Naturally, we would be unable to survive in a these different universes, the physics that hold us together and allow our bodies to operate wouldn't be able to exist.

Re: Uniformity
Wait, why do Christians have a webpage about multiverses?
...
OMG i just found this thing (do NOT read it if you fear Permutation City spoilers. Also AI researchers seem to watch way too much anime)

Re: Uniformity
Well I do have to ask, would anyone be interested in this if it was made into an RP?
