Default Nelle's sanity has gone out the window...x3

Personly I don't think I ever had any sanity, thus my poor excuse for a mental state but my thats not what this is about.

Anyone ever find them selves questioning there own reality?

Ever question if you where dreaming or really awake?

Ever lose the Distinction between your own daydreams and the reality your experiencing through your own senses?

These are things I deal with quite often, i'm personally trying to figure out the reason for this but i'm wondering if anyone else has had such questions and thoughts.

Course this could be a byproduct of a particularity vivid imagination as well.

Yeah. Existential thoughts and pondering is all well and good as long as you don't let it dominate you. I had a friend whom I loved very much that let his thoughts get the better of him. He questioned reality to the point where suicide for him was fine, because none of this was real to him. I miss him very much.

Yeah, you should really not let your thoughts get the better of you. You also might not want to go see Inception, since it kind of revolves around all that.

    1. Thats what humans do... question what is or is not real.
    2. As for dreaming... I either don't dream or my memory is so bad I dun remember.
    3. As for loosing my since of reality... once.

Listen Nelle... your whats called 'Normal'. Everyone suffers from this at one point or another and its usually for the better. So my advise to you, is for you to find something good to read, like 'Don Quixote' or 'Two Cities'. ANd thats my advise, have fun and if you'd like to send me a retort or to say 'Hi.' then PM me.

I'm sure a lot of us have. I've gone through a phase where I wondered if we were really not just batteries. That was right around the time The Matrix came out. Stuff like that makes you think, and as long as you keep your sense of where you are then thinking and questioning your environment is healthy. That's what I think anyway.

I have had dreams that just seemed so real, like they really did happen.
I haven't had a problem knowing it was a dream tho.

Not really, closest was something akin to an existential crisis i had as a kid (reading Douglas Adams can do that to a child). In the end i read some philosophical novels (Sophie's World, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and The Stranger) and decided to try not to think about it.

Ever question if you were dreaming or really awake?
Yes, but only in the context of hypnagogia or lucid dreams (where i think i'm awake but then something strange happens and i realise i'm really asleep). Other than after close brushes with death i rarely suspect i'm dreaming when i'm actually awake.

Ever lose the Distinction between your own daydreams and the reality you're experiencing through your own senses?
Not when in a legal state of mind.
These are things I deal with quite often, i'm personally trying to figure out the reason for this
Um are you getting enough sleep?
Also, hallucination is a common symptom of psychosis and neurological disorders.. if it's serious you should prob have it checked out.

Ever question if you where dreaming or really awake?
    Many times.

Ever lose the Distinction between your own daydreams and the reality your experiencing through your own senses?
Yes, because some times my senses give me contradictory information.

Reality becomes blurry some times. Some times I have very long and vivid dreams, which look and feel much more interesting and real that the dull routine of my "real" life.

I have a problem related with insomnia. If I stay without sleep for long time I start to hallucinate. I see stuff that I know it's not there. I have read it is the result of the brain needing to dream whether you sleep or not, to you start "dreaming awake".

Some times I have strange ideas. Many years ago I had a bike accident and I hit my head pretty hard and scraped my face skin against the pavement. I thought my face would have been disfigured, but instead I recovered very fast most of the scars disappeared.

Some times I wonder if I didn't recover. Maybe I didn't even woke up. What if I'm in a coma and all this is happening inside my head? Maybe I'm in a hospital bed dreaming all this?

It's just a crazy idea that crosses my head some times.

You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

What is real? How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can hear, what you can smell, taste and feel, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

The only time I've lost the distinction between dream and reality occurs for me...well, it's gonna sound weird as all hell, but I'm going to be honest: I've occasionally had a precognitive dream, a small glimpse of the future. So it's more of a jarring sense of deja vu, and the point of disconnect where the precognition in the dream cut off and reality kept going.

Were I to project a personnal oppinion, it would be thus: All perceptions of reality are both correct and incorrect. Existance is not black and white. Reality is how one chooses to interpret events that happen. Ghosts, for example, are one of the frayed edges of reality, where many different perceptions exist. We of the living do not know for sure and are therefore subject to a reality of our own creation. Hence, "Do not focus on the spoon, instead believe there is no spoon."

As for a blurring of the lines between dreaming and being awake, there have been studies of brain waves becoming beta waves and affecting the world around the individual, but I don't think that was the question. To answer this, I point a theory, Einstein's Theory of Relativity, if I remember correctly, that gives us a view of infinite parallel universes, each with an individual "me." Perhaps there are no dreams, only a sharing of existance between those who question. Us who are me are also me who is us.

Reality is a perception, not a fact. People create universal laws and theories to feel safe, to understand. To be unable to understand is mankind's greatest fear, for what they cannont understand, they cannot control. There is no reality, there are individuals.

The theory of relativity deals with large masses and high speeds, and predicts things like time dilation, mass-energy equivalence (E=mc^2) and that the speed of light is the fastest anything can travel.
You mean Many Worlds, aka the Everett interpretation of quantum mechanics (incidentally Hugh Everett was a very strange/interesting guy... if nothing else check out his notion of quantum immortality.)

a view of infinite parallel universes, each with an individual "me."
I recently read this novel u might like, Transition by Iain Banks

Banks uses the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics theory to imagine "infinitudes" of parallel realities, between which The Concern's agents -–known as Transitionaries–- can "flit", intervening in events to produce what The Concern sees as beneficial outcomes for that world. Transitioning, or flitting, is only possible for people with a predisposed talent for such movement, who may only flit after ingesting a mysterious drug called 'septus'. When a Transitionary flits into another world, he or she temporarily takes control of the body of an existing inhabitant of that world, along with some of that body's residual idiosyncrasies (such as personality disorders and sexual preferences).
Not my fav Banks book but probably pretty interesting for those into the idea.
