IE9 Beta
For those interested, the public Beta of Internet Explorer 9 is now available for download from http://www.beautyoftheweb.com .
Finally Microsoft is now getting serious about their browser. This is really quite nice. However, I'll warn you right now, the current scififur templates don't work on it yet. Most of the forums work, but the new post page doesn't work. As we get closer to the release of IE9 we'll get it all fixed up, so don't worry.

Re: IE9 Beta
What little I've seen of it looks pretty promising, I'll still be sticking with the Fox myself. ^^

Re: IE9 Beta
I've tried Firefox 4 and it's great, but it's good to see Microsoft finally taking the browser seriously again. Now if they could just get rid of IE6 the world would be a better place.

Re: IE9 Beta
It seems to handle those just fine. I tried throwing a bunch of HTML5 stuff at it and it seemed to do quite well.

Re: IE9 Beta
Yay!
(but seriously/sadly, IE6 won't be going away any time soon :[ too many companies can't/won't upgrade older machines, and supporting the minimum common denominator seems to rule the day web-dev-wise)

Re: IE9 Beta
Well, MS is actively telling people to get off IE6. THey're not supporting it anymore, so maybe sooner or later we'll see it go away.

Re: IE9 Beta
Well, I don't plan to use it as my main browser, but I do like a few little aspects of it. Like pinning websites to the taskbar for one. I know I'll stick with Firefox personally, especially since V4 is shaping up to be really good.

Am I the only Chrome user? D: But yeah it seems that competition is finally shaking the tree of complacency Microsoft has been sitting in. IE is finally getting the attention its deserved after it defeated Netscape, and Windows Phone 7 means that Microsoft is finally getting back into the serious mobile business. All in all this is a plus for everyone since competition = innovation.

Re: IE9 Beta
I do use chrome on my netbook, it seems to be the lightest of the currently available web browsers. (not that I have any hard data to back that up)

Nah, i think Brome said he uses it, plus i do whenever i encounter a site that uses so much javascript from disparate sites that whitelisting all of them in NoScript would be a chore.
But mostly i try to avoid it since i don't trust Google so much.
(plus the linear tab bar seems ridiculously limiting ever since i tried tree-style tabs)

Yay! But my fear is that in five years IE9 will be in much the same position that IE6 is now.. "where's the haptic feedback and eyetracking support" (or whatever) we'll be asking, "how can MS get away with not supporting even such basic features?!"...

Well then Firefox 8.2 will include all those features plus HTML 6, Google Uranium will include 100% real cloud computing applications, and Safari will incorporated into any gadget that is portable. Once again forcing Microsoft to innovate.
