The MLP thread started to get me thinking about how bad cartoons are now-a-days, and how good cartoons used to be when I was younger. So, I thought I'd make this thread so we could discuss the cartoons that we actually got up early on Saturday morning to watch.
For me, I'd have to say my two favorite cartoon series of all time would have to be Angry Beavers and Ren & Stimpy!
Well, watching cartoons now that I'm older is a different experience than it was when I was younger. I have watched a lot of shows that I likes as a kid that I can't stand now, like M.A.S.K. Lately I watched a bunch of Ren & Stimpy and Rocky & Bullwinkle episodes on Netflix and found that surprisingly they still hold up. I'm also a fan of Bucky O'Hare. It was a pretty good show.
To be honest, I sort of came in to many of the 'classics' quite late, although I have no idea why. I'm a massive cartoon fan now, but when me and my friends reminisce, I'm always the one who ends up saying "What was that one? Never saw it".
Invader Zim I only started watching shortly before it was dropped, and stuff like Angry Beavers (taking examples you guys have mentioned) long after it had started. I could never get into stuff like Catdog, Ren and Stimpy or I Am Weasel, although I watched a little bit of Cow and Chicken (not much though).
I loved Rugrats (and agree with Adonisus, it's still very good quality to this day) and watched a lot of Dexter's Lab, although I've not watched that in a looooong time, so no idea whether I'd still be a fan. Spongebob, of course. Still a fan of that, although I'm a little ashamed to admit it.
There was a time where I mostly watched the two 'main' children's classics: Hanna Barbera and Loony Tunes (I'm discounting Disney because their shows did/do suck, but of course I loved their movies) and for a long time Space Jam was my favourite movie.
What else... Johnny Bravo, and a bit of Animaniacs, which I enjoyed but again for some reason never watched all too much of. Maybe it was on at a bad time or something (as in when I was leaving for school, or something like that)
Courage the Cowardly Dog was a favourite for a short while, although looking back the only things I still love about that are the Duck Brothers:
Ooh, just remembers Hey Arnold! as well, which was very high quality. Good stuff, although not too many people seemed to watch it.
Batman: The Animated Series and Animals of Farthing Wood are both incredible, but I never watched them as a kid, only now looking back. Although I'd advise everyone here to watch them. The first because most of us are sci-fi and comic fans, the second because we're furries :p
The Wild Thornberrys was good as well, although it took me a while to get into it. I'll be honest, I'd forgotten about it until I read this list. Also Watch My Chops and My Dad the Rockstar were pretty good, but neither were... amazing really.
Hmm, that about wraps things up as far as I can remember for cartoons. Now if I were talking about what I still like today, the list would be considerably longer XD

Honestly, I still watch a ton of cartoons. Although, now they are mostly reruns of shows that were cancelled when I was a kid.
One of my favorite shows as a kid (and early teens) that is still one of my favorite shows to this day is Samurai Jack.
Let's see, Rugrats was one of my faves, Dexter's Lab (I still watch on occasion), the 80's Transformers...
Like Samurai Jack, Invader Zim was and still is one of my favorite shows.
The first few seasons of Pokemon and Digimon.
Hmm, I know there are a few others, but can't for the life of me think of them right now.
What about Animaniacs and Tiny Toons? Those are still quite good. Oh, and while browsing Netflix tonight I found Heathcliff. Man, that cat is just too fun to watch.
Dragon Ball Z, Ed Edd and Eddy, Dexter's Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Rugrats, Samurai Jack..... Good you guys must have been stalking me D: I LOVED these shows.
Toonami was officially like my favorite show block ever.
Ah I fogot about that one, another good one. However it was a show I really needed to watch in order. Damn the days before the DVR!
But like, I turned it on one time a few years after I had seen the first episodes of it and everything was tottally wacked out. Aku had actually captured Jack of something like that, I had no freaking clue what was going on "What is this I don't even..."
The episodes I did see earlier in the series were epic though. Favorite has to be the one where he meets the Scottish guy with a machine gun for a leg lol
One particular 'toon I was really fond of (and still am) was Road Rovers, which was one of the many obscure cartoons that got the axe due to low ratings (mostly because WB had released a glut of cartoons around the time and there was just too much to go around).
Pure furry. Lots of action for the kiddies and adult humor for the parents.....and its total rule34 fuel.
I just remembered some that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Hopefully I'm not the only one that still remembers them.
Eek! the Cat
The Terrible Thunder Lizards
Freakazoid
Beetlejuice
Earthworm Jim
Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM)
And, yes I agree about Road Rovers. That show was just released at the wrong time. I feel that if it had been released a few years later and had the same team of animators working on the entire show, it might have lasted a few more seasons. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I started writing a RR fanfic a few weeks ago.
I keep forgetting to mention Courage the Cowardly Dog >,=,>
I even still watch it on occasion.
And Beetlejuice was one I used to watch on a regular basis, I thank you Husk for bringing it up!
I almost forgot it while typing this, but Felix The Cat is another I used to watch!
Although I only remember watching it on VCR, and it wasn't that particular episode. It was also a possible furry influence.
Also on the subject of possible furry influences, classic cartoons, and cats, I don't think anyone has mentioned Tom and Jerry! Who here can say they never watched it as a kid?
I agree, Slate. If you say you never watched Tom and Jerry as a kid, you are either a liar or there is something seriously wrong with you. Also, you are welcome for the Beetlejuice.
Also, what about Biker Mice from Mars, Street Sharks, and Savage Dragon?
I agree, Slate. If you say you never watched Tom and Jerry as a kid, you are either a liar or there is something seriously wrong with you.
Or you never had access to Western TV shows and grew up on Super Sentai and Transformers.
For the record though, I was able to watch the Simpsons in cantonese when I was younger. But. I think it is better in English.

Some people say there are two types of people in the world:
Those who think the glass is half full, and those who think the glass is half empty.
However... the world belongs to those people who can say:
"Excuse me? Excuse me?! Is this my glass? I don't think so! My was bigger! And it was filled to the top!"
And then there are those whose cups are empty, because they've been knocked over by those asking for more, and there are also those who don't even have a cup because they were too far from the bar-top to order one.
I will say this on it, Homer sounds much funnier in English.
Hearing 'Aiya' instead of D'oh just doesn't cut it.

I'm almost thirty - not sure how old the rest of you are - so I grew up with 80's cartoons, which have influenced my art, writing, roleplaying, and much more since.
I loves me some old-skool heroics and action, some Big Shiny Dumb technology, and teams of heroes facing teams of villains.
I had cartoons like the Mysterious Cities of Gold, StarCom, Ulysses 31, Dogtanion and the Three Muskehounds, Pole Position, Centurions, MASK and Transformers when I was growing up - and they're all things I've got fond memories of.
I occasionally write retro-reviews for my friends' review site: Unbored.co.uk, of old cartoons and my memories of them.
