Interest Check: Dissension
Interest Check: Dissension
Been thinking about running an RP as of late. I decided on a Sort of Pandorum / Bioshock atmosphere. The setting is this: A massive human station that originally was intended to only orbit the sun, but due to circumstances that are yet to be revealed (And chosen by me >.>), the station had to execute a maneuver to fling itself free of the solar system, and has been flying through the galaxy for a very long time, until now as it is captured by the gravity of a star and enters orbit around it.
It is about this time when the players exit their stasis cells, and try to figure out what is going on. If there’s enough interest in this RP, I’ll figure that out too. =P
Characters would be scientists, crew members, their families, or maybe even unlucky tourists who were on board at the time, as there was not time to get everyone off of this massive station before it had to exit the solar system.
Your characters would wake up, and immediately find that something is amiss. Most notably, quite a few of the people in stasis have gained rather animalistic traits (You were all humans beforehand). For some reason unknown to the characters, the cocktail of smart drugs and reparative chemicals used to maintain the stasis was contaminated with various kinds of Earth animal DNA, and over the course of the long stasis, has been “repairing” them using the animal DNA instead of the human DNA, resulting in some kind of hybrid.
Some people were unaffected and still are fully human, some only got minor changes like patches of fur or cat ears. A lot of people got more greatly affected, resulting in their body resembling an anthropomorphic animal all the way to some (Though this is rare) subjects who were turned all the way into ferals. (Note, it is inadvisable for a player to play a full feral, as the process would have included reducing the size of the brain cavity).
If there’s enough interest in this, I’ll flesh out a plot and put up a character sheet.

This sounds pretty interesting. I'd like to hear more. Seems like it could be quite a fun one!

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
I've actually been kicking the idea of an RP similar to this for a few months now. Mostly the setting (massive ship, passengers and crew in extended stasis).
However, you beat me to the punch. Good show!
That said, consider me interested. Given my interests, I'll probably play a reptilian half breed who was originally part of security. Although I'm totally willing to change that if need be.

That's what I'm hoping for as well Slice. Furry for the sake of furry doesn't seem interesting.

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
Alright, looks like this has enough interest to go ahead. Awesome.
Freaking out about suddenly being furs will be up to you guys, but don't worry, any NPCs I have will be properly freaking the hell out. Finding out why the heck that happened will probably be the first or second plot point, depending on how I choose to run this.
Slate, that sounds fine. Though you shouldn't let me making this RP stop you from making your own, this place could use the activity anyways.
I will edit information into this post once I get some preliminary information written up.
EDIT: Here it is. Yay!
General information
It is some time in the future. Around the 22nd to 23rd century, humanity built a series of space elevators, which made the act of going into space extremely cheap. A company called Lock-On Biotechnology Endeavors (L.O.B.E.) built a station in solar orbit. Using a modular design, they started small, conducting minor experiments testing different gravity levels, radiation levels, and light levels. After getting some decent patents, they expanded their operation, increasing the size of the station as they generated more and more funds.
The station, officially named L.O.B.E. Solar Orbit Biological Testing Facility 01, was given a grand upgrade for her 50th birthday. It was the largest by far of a series of 5 stations, but it was aging. It had some final add-ons made, and then was given “The Shell,” a massive transparent silicate dome covering almost the entire several-mile-long station (Simple Model to come soon.). The outside was built up to be an ecosystem, and the station would continue scientific endeavors on animal and plant populations in a controlled environment while more of the cutting-edge research was transferred to it’s younger, more advanced sister stations 06 through 10.
The station became a popular spot for tourists, as it’s picturesque arboretum provided a comforting experience for travelers going from Earth to Mars and the other outer planets and back, and wasn’t subject to the close scrutiny and protections that the remaining wildlife areas on Earth were, allowing tourists to see exotic and endangered species up close.
What happened after that has been lost from your memories for now, as being in suspension for a very long time caused memory degradation, and thanks to plot-convenient science, the recent memories are usually the easiest to lose while asleep.
Character Sheets:
Name:
Gender:
Age (Not counting suspended time):
Prior occupation: (Crew, scientist, family of either, tourist, etc. If crew or scientist, please include position. No on-duty military personnel, the only armed people allowed on the station were the security team. That is not to say you couldn’t be off-duty military, but please try and be sensible guys. We won’t need half the party to be combat ready super-soldiers.)
Physical description: (Human, anthro, or what? Up to 3 animals are allowed to be included in the contamination, and the modifications to the body has to still be able to survive in normal conditions a human could expect, so no major octopus parts, appendages, or organs. Suckers, for example, might be allowed, but tentacles will not be as they require too much water to have been sustained in stasis. Also bear in mind that if you go for a non-anthro body, that would include the brain cavity getting shrunk, which would make the character difficult to play.)
I wouldn’t worry about having too varied of personnel in one place, the arrangements for who sleeps where were made rather quickly and haphazardly.

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
Name: K.T. Hale
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Prior Occupation: Security personnel (no military background)
Physical Description: Anthro reptilian, standing at roughly 5'8". Scales are only found on a few places on his body, most notably the tops of his hands and feet, while the rest of his body is covered more with hide rather than human-esque skin.
The color of which ranges from light to slightly darker hues of brown (not unlike most desert dwelling reptiles).
Black claws have replaced finger and toe nails. The hands only have three equally sized fingers, the middle being slightly extended, with an opposable thumb on each. Toes have become roughly equal in size with only four per foot. The first (former big toe) has shifted position closer to the middle on the side of the foot, and is now slightly smaller than the others. The bottoms of the hands and feet lack prints, but are still fairly coarse allowing him to grip with ease (although not much beyond a normal person).
He has a tail coming from the base of his spine which extends to a little past his ankles. His overall build is fairly lithe, as he spent the majority of his free time jogging or climbing.
His ears (so to speak) are little more than holes on the sides of his head. His pupils are slit leading to better low-light vision that that of a normal human. A 'pit' exists just bellow and to the sides of his nostrils. The purposes of these are infrared sensory organs.

Name: Prof. Philip R. Mitchell
Gender: Male
Age (Not counting suspended time): 37
Prior occupation: Scientist - Head of the Animal Behavioral Psychologist Devision
Physical description: Mostly human, but with rabbit fur growing across part of his torso and back, left arm down to his wrist, left leg down to his ankle and right leg down to the knee.
Philip is about 5'7", and gaunt, with cheeks sunk through age, stress and poor diet. His brown hair is flat and thin, untidy and ear-length. He wears glasses, white suit shirt and brown trousers with a belt (What with the animals I'm assuming we have artificial grav., otherwise excuse the terrible choice of clothing! XD) and a pair of brown Derby shoes. Oh, and a wrist watch.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that, there is artificial gravity.

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
Name: Sean Gerard
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Prior Occupation: Guitarist/Singer. He was on the station performing for the staff and various tourists. He was supposed to have been scheduled to leave soon, but "stuff" happened.
Appearance: The stasis contamination seems to have effected him quite significantly. His body has gone from the fit human 20-something Bay Area rocker to that of an anthropomorphic Black Hawk. He's got sharp eyes, a hooked beak, and sharp taloned feet. His arms have partially changed to wings, though they are more arm than wing. His hands seem more human than avian, so he should be able to function normally.

Any chance I could play some sort of station AI? Doesn't have to be one that is in control of something important, don't want to god mod.

I know what you're thinking, because I had the same idea.
If you want to be a version of Wheatley, You'll have to do some chatting with me, but I wouldn't be entirely opposed. =P

Poor Wheatley, designed to be dumb...
I'll have to think over night about it, all I knew is I wanted to play an AI - didn't think out what the functions would be though.
It'd probably be more like a HAL type. An AI like him isn't too far fetched and he's not god-modded. xD

Speaking on behalf of the living crew members, I'd rather not have the ship controlled by HAL XD

Ok, that did actually make me laugh. And cringe, but mostly laugh.

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
A HAL type computer may not be the best, actually. A lot of the ship's systems are damaged, and that means a lot of the AI computer systems became physically isolated from each other, causing the AI to fragment. What this would mean for a HAL type computer is that you can't move around that much in the ship, since the network is damaged to the point where entire sections of the ship have no connections with the rest of the ship. Which could be a problem since the party will be getting around. The advantage of a Wheatley style AI-core is mobility, a HAL -like one, not so much.
So if you are going for an AI character, you could have a HAL-like personality, but you'd have to be located in a mobile AI core.

Character Sheets:
Name: Dustin "Dusty" Michaels
Gender: Male
Age (Not counting suspended time): 32
Prior occupation: EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity)-certified welder/engineer.
Physical description: The stasis pod wasn't very nice to Mr. Michaels. His hands have half way morphed into paws with his fingers becoming shorter and thicker and his pinky out right vanishing. Tawny fur covers his chest, arms, and face which has been twisted into that of some sort of large feline. The presence of a much thicker black fur around his neck and head would have suggested a lion of some sort, but the faint black stripes down his back points to something close to a Liger.
As far proportions go the rest of his body is fairly normal. His finger and toe-nails have grown sharper and his sense of smell and his night vision have both improved sharply. The only shocking addition was that of a tail. The base fur was the same color as the fur on his upper torso but with the same faint black stripes as his back, and it ended in a black tuft, once again pointing towards his mixed heritage.

Gender: Female
Age: 42 (do to longer life spans of the future, this would be more like 28 today)
Prior occupation: Head Theoretical Physicist and Enginneer
Physical description: Full fox anthro. -- Sam has the basic look of a red-fox. White fur from her lower jaw, down her chest to her inner thighs, as well as a white tipped tail and white inner ears. The white fur of her chest also goes up her under-arms a bit. The white fur also down down between her legs. She has black fur on her paws up to her elbows - and from her feet-paws up to her knees. The entirety of the outside of her ears are black furred too. All other fur is fox orange. She has deep blue eyes, and bright red hair that hangs down to her mid-back. She has an oversized tail that is as large, if not bigger than her entire body.

Re: Interest Check: Dissension
Name: Cierra Zissler
Gender: Female
Age: 30
Prior occupation: Intrasystem Pilot
Physical description: Cierra looks like a wolf anthro, though her neon blue fur would make many question the species which have been mixed into her genes, the main reason for this is because along with the wolf DNA that was mixed into her genome during the stasis period the DNA of Jelly Fish was also mixed into her Genome as well. Because of this, her fur is actually bioluminescent. Alongside this mutation her claws also are covered in a variation of the jelly fish stinging cells.
And interesting thing about Cierra is the fact that her fur is actually translucent. The Neon blue color comes from the fact that her skin is actually glowing and that the fur is carrying the color with it. As a result, her paw pads, nose, lips and pretty much any other exposed piece of skin are glowing a bright blue color.

Age: 32
Prior Occupation: Starship Mechanic
Physical description: Taken on the form of an Anthro Manned wolf during Stasis, she stands at an Average Height, just over 5', fairly light build with a strong, tight core, Sandy brown hair with white roots and darkened tips streaked with various colors and a pair of thin braids falling over each shoulder, the rest falling down to the small of her back. Her fur is a dusty white across most of her body, becoming a snowy white down the front of her chest and down her belly, ending between her legs just above the knees and about a foot and a half down her tail. Her fur turns darker as it reaches her paws, the end of her tail, and her eartips. the palms and bottoms of her paws are also a snowy white. all along her back, right arm, part of her chest, most of her right leg, and a pit of her left shoulder are marked with a series of incredibly elaborate tribal tattoos set into her fur. she has three marks around her right eye, and two dashes over her left in addition to the ones on her back, all marked in black fur rising from the locations of tattoos she had previously. her eyes are a pale grey with golden flakes around the edges.
Her normal attire includes a Females 'Cabbie Cover'(Mona's style hat from Warioware) or a doo-rag while working, either coveralls(while working) or jeans, a rocker-T, and PF flyers or sandals(Previously, now either goes barefoot, or wears sandals because she can't find any shoes that fit her digidigrade feet) and a white leather motorcycle jacket

wasn't sure if I needed to include what she would wear, I assume there was probably some kinda locker they kept their belongings in before entering stasis...if ya want me to take it off, I can, just trying to cover the bases there XP
