Hope it's ok if i like commandeer this thing, i want to be alone for a bit.. watching the fantastic success of Notch the Minecraft guy i was all like "wow, i could do that..."

(This is why my sig has had that "i aten't back yet" thing in it recently, which i'm sure has been puzzling ya'll.. any posting i may seem to be doing from now on is all in your head. Honest!
I have a (seldom used) twitter alias where updates miiight get posted whenever i come back online to look something up.. this isn't a total blackout, i just hope to limit my online time to only a few minutes at once until i get some momentum going on my project.)

I realise you mostly have no reason to care if i'm gone, since i never even did get around to trying RPing (which was mainly why i joined this site in the first place), it's just that i read this thing that said that announcing such plans in advance might make fear of loss of face a motivating factor (this is also why Alcoholics Anonymous make ppl do that ritual humiliation thing of going round apologising for being a drinker). Doubt that this stratagem'll work for me, since my ego is tiny compared to Richard Hamming's, but eh, whatever, it's worth a shot.

(Incidentally, i found that Hamming lecture via this excellent Paul Graham essay... it contains great advice for anyone ambitious, whatever it is you're planning.
Another interesting thing i saw recently was Andrew Hussie's explanation of how he was so amazingly productive during the Problem Sleuth / early Homestuck years.)

Thanks for letting us know borg. Just because you don't RP here doesn't mean nobody's going to care. You contribute in other ways with your well thought out discussions. This isn't entirely an RP forum after all. That said, if you've got to step back a bit while you get work done then that is entirely fine as well. Maybe when you come back you could show us what you've been tinkering with? I'm sure a lot of folks (myself included) would be interested in seeing it.

Either way, take care man, and we hope to see you back when time allows.

Day one of my space mission didn't go so well, mostly i just failed at google and argued about dinosaurs >:[
