We're currently in the process of tinkering with the visuals of the forums. Don't be too surprised if you see some weird things show up now and then. We're trying stuff, and seeing what works and what doesn't.
I thought I should give you guys this quick heads up, so that you all don't start wondering what the heck's going on.
Yep! I'm being a regular plow horse!! Just plowing right through getting this site setup with an all new, completely killer look!
While we're working on the site, if anyone has any feedback or suggestions, we'd love to hear them!
On that note, you're likely to see some really weird stuff pop up. This is just me experimenting with stuff, to see what works and what doesn't. So no worries, if something really weird looking does pop up, there is a very good likelihood it will be going away or will be replaced.
I am a "discoverer" designer, not one of these insanely gifted "intuitive" ones! On that note, I really appreciate suggestions. I may be hitting walls with what will look right, and struggling to come up with something that does. A suggestion might just set me off in a whole new direction I hadn't thought of before! So hit me up with comments and suggestions, please!
Either way, everyone, we're revamping the site. By the time we're done, it is not only going to be all new, but it is going to be completely cool!

Oh, I absolutely love this current SciFiFur sidebar image. Some of the other changes have been nice, but this is the only one I've seen so far that is definitely a keeper!
That said, it clashes quite a lot with the other aspects of the current style (blue/black lined post backgrounds, metallic plate forum background, 80s style glamour scifi footer etc)
But yeah, brilliant stuff!

Hehe, trust me, it's a work in progress. A lot of it, in fact, I have just inserted as place holders to do away with the "Fischer Price" look that the forums had before.
Already, I've spent about $50 on graphics from professional graphics sites. In addition, I have been in contact with various artists around the furry fandom. So believe me, this place'll shape up. It is just going to be a matter of me getting in touch with the right artists, and putting together a graphics scheme that works.
The side bars are keepers, though. Those, I made myself, and are going to be gotten rid of!

Slowly but surely we're making progress. I think the background looks nice now, it doesn't get in the way of the forum, but still visible. Hopefully over the next few days we'll smooth out more of the rough edges.
I've hit upon a wall paper for the forums that I think I really like!
It comes from a free wall paper website - free for download, royalty-free, and... I couldn't even find an artist's name attached to it. But either way, it is now Scififur.net's official wall paper! And I personally, think it looks radically cool!
Now, all I need to do is to come up with something that'll fit the forum's footer. I agree with Slice. It looks rather.... 80's. It is by no means a crappy picture, but it for certain, doesn't fit.

:o Where have our cool side-bars gone?! If they made the site look too busy and overcrowded then that's fine, I understand, but I'm not sure I like pure black sides. We should either have some kind of image there or get rid of them, right? Or are we waiting for the... ah... specialised graphics? (Not wanting to give too much away to non-staff members just yet )

Those are placeholders right now. They sort of looked a little weir against the new background, so Rick is trying to figure out what to put there. So nah, we're not sticking with the plain black bars, don't worry.
We are working on this one style for now. Having multiple styles is a lot of work for me, because when there is a new vb update it means I have to update each one manually. That could be a couple dozen template changes per style.
While I'm not going to rule out the possibility of multiple styles, right now we're just going to focus on the one.
Loving the new FA/DA buttons! Also the Recent threads look quite good condensed, although we could probably consider raising the amount back to 10, since that won't take up as much room now.

I like the new symbols next to the sub-forums, but I think that the white on them should be toned down a bit. At the moment it's somewhat distracting (also just noticed the new Post Reply button, which I like and is the same style. That is a good example of the level of white that I would like to see on the sub-forum symbols)

Yeah, I'm not wholly satisfied with them, either, Slice. I'm having difficulty coming up with anything that works well at the moment, though. But never fear, they will get better. This is a work in progress, after all.
But it is one which is getting closer and closer to our goals.

Those certainly work for me. I really like the way those look. They don't have that white on them that gets distracting, but they look quite smooth to me.
You might've noticed that the Search disappeared. Now that I've found it, I'll be relocating it tomorrow, I just didn't feel like messing with it tonight.
You might've noticed that things look a lot more black than they did before. Consider it a black primer coat as we figure out what to do with the various bits of the forums. While it isn't too bad as it is, I think that we could do better. So watch for changes as the days go by.
