While I'm still rather busy my work load has loosed a bit, in the mean time i'm planning to run a short RP over the winter break in a future Noir style setting. In case your wondering the name is inspired by a comic of the same name.

This is based in the SINS universe, though the time line has been heavily revised.

Technology

Seemingly endless funding into the Sky Dragons Innovation R&D department has brought the planet to new technological heights but it has come at a cost. The rapid technological advancement has changed the surface in a playground for the wealthy, but those without the money or education to live on the surface have been driven underground. Even if the middle class still live fairly decently on the upper levels of the hives on the corporate controlled world. All in all Midlothian, even in its lowest slums is a world of excess.

Environment

The surface of Midlothian is clean, wealthy, urban metropolis with corporate police forces patrolling the streets. But that clean environment ends at the surface; many of the wealthy save for a few that live on the surface are even aware of the plight underground, and those that are aware, don’t care. Below the surface, the Midlothian is split in several hundred levels and sub levels going down over 10 miles into the surface of the planet. Below the two mile mark starts the world’s slums, an area of the world rampant with crime and murder. For an example, level 30 is as packed as Tokyo, dirty as New York city and with the road size of the back streets of London. Not for the claustrophobic.

Society

Recently an economic recession from the end of the war has cause massive layoff from all major corporations. The result has been the flooding of the lower levels with more people than lived there before. Because of the lack of work, and the extended times of unemployment people are being to worry about their futures more. As a result Crime rates have reached levels never before seen even in the lowest levels of Midlothian.

Name: Nathaniel Locke

Age: 26

Sex: Male (currently)

Appearance: Nathan is a complete body-modification addict. His appearance changes very often. At this time, he’s obtained a “fountain of youth” treatment, making him take on the appearance of a young child, no older than 5. He doesn’t plan to keep it, but at the time he’s also an anthro Siberian tiger of that age.

History: Nathaniel was insecure from a young age. When he was born (as an anthro otter, mind you), his parents had high expectations of him, and were always pushing him to do better, chastising him when they felt he wasn’t giving it his all, even if it was. As such, he grew very doubtful of himself, thinking he was inadequate in many ways. It didn’t help that one of his youth teachers had a thing against him, being overly critical and only deepening his lack of self confidence.

However, he still managed to do incredibly well in school, getting accepted into The New Madrid University at age 14 (Corporate scholarships yay). It was also at this age that he got his first body-modification. His body mod addiction is a manifestation of his poor self image, and he’s always trying new bodies until he grows sick of them and refreshes himself. He’s been through numerous variations of his own body, going through a new one every month at his peak (In college). He made a lot of friends with other body modders in that time. He cooled off with the body mods when he graduated, mainly because at the urging of a couple friends, he started to get therapy for his confidence issues.

He had a very strong knack for Hyperspace physics, getting his degree specialized in them, and was hired as an engineer for Sky Dragon Innovations. His work with research into hyperspace physics has earned him some degree of respect. He was placed at the head of a new drive engineering team, and their progress has gotten Nathan a small bit of renown as an authority on hyperspace physics.

Recently, while using some of his vacation time, Nathaniel decided to do something that he felt would help with his self confidence issue, but his therapist was lukewarm to. He got a “Fountain of Youth” treatment to make himself kindergarten aged, and was planning to gain some fake credentials and enroll himself in one of his most egregious teachers class, with the plan to humiliate him and make him look like a fool in front of his coworkers. This particular teacher had said he’d never amount to anything, but Nathan had now amounted to far more than he, so this was his own sort of revenge.

Gear: Computer lenses (contact), Credit stick, Personal wearable computer with hacking software (Brute force), Smart Clothes (comfortable, Able to become waterproof, warm or cool, change shape a bit, etc.)

Implants: Brain modifications for improved function, including very strong mathematics, and muscles and bone enhancements to be more agile than someone his age should be.

History:
Having attained a sponsorship from SDI at the age of 14, Tyle spent the following seven years in school. Having spent those seven years with a restrained social life, the still young male hopes to make up for it as much as he can along side work in the future. Getting out of school by the age of twenty one proved a good springboard for those plans.

His schooling included many subjects based around, networking, computer systems, electronics, and engineering to work on ships as well as more basic crafts and structures. A small health course was required of him as well as a physical education course and for the later there was mostly self defense classes available. The combination was to instill greater self confidence and sense of personal health and care.

Having a body as unique as his was largely a result from having parents who were modified far beyond their original state. A small portion of his look was a result of later modification to make his current make up come together better along with a very small change made for personal experimentation. In spite of taking part in body alteration and having the funds to spare, Tyle avoids most cybernetic implants beyond what is most essential to his job. In his mind, it allows him to better enjoy the wonderful body he has become. A body that has been copyrighted. SDI keeps copies of his genetic history.

Looking back, there was nothing that seemed to have lead to his current standard of life before being picked by SDI. His father works for United Agriculture and his mother for Regolith Industries. Both worked to provide care for their child and had been through heavy personal modifications making Tyle one starkly unique baby. His love for working on hover and air craft though could perhaps be traced to watching videos of air boarding, stunt pilots, and similar things. He was more curious about how the things worked and how cool they looked than riding them, at first.

Currently, Tyle lives alone with a home a bit too large for one person and is often looking for some one to help him fill it, at least temporarily. Getting a pet was suggested and is on his lower priority to-do list. While SDI and his family makes him feel both wanted and valuable, he has yet to meet an individual that made him feel particularly special.

Some more information for the corporations of Midlothian and one egomatic cult leader

Sky Dragon Innovations:

Sky Dragon Innovations, more commonly called SDI is the most powerful of the five corporations. SDI is the premier manufacturer of computer technology and the primary provider of ships on Midlothian, they combined with Novaship Inc control 99% of the ship building industry.

Black Sun pharmaceuticals:

Black sun is the medical giant of Midlothian, all implants, bio traits, metamorphic changes; medical problems that need to be solved go through them. All hospitals and medical firms across Midlothian need to be approved by black sun. Thanks to this, black sun has solidified its grip on Midlothian’s people.

Ariel Midlothian:

Ariel is the mother of black sun and considers her a demigod of sorts. In her view it’s thanks to her that people have the ability to express total morphological freedom. And in a sense she is right. Her god complex combined with some fanatics has spawned a fairly large cult in her following with her risen to the position of a deity and she basks in it. The cult of Midlothian actually has corporate funding thanks to her, and has an impact in government. There is even a holy book known as the Grimoire of Midlothian that has been the bestselling book in recent years. Not only this, but the Cult of Midlothian has enough Church militant to wage a small war if need be and it only keeps growing.

Novaship Inc:

Novaship is the second largest manufacturer of ships on Midlothian and controller of the majority of united shipping, and distribution across the GSA Novaship has little actual ties to the public aside from the fact that it’s known that its known that all goods are transported via Nova. Novaship is the only corporation whom doesn’t have an actual owner and controlled via just its board of directors.

Regolith Industries:

Regolith industries made its mark by taking over manufacturing, mining, and construction within the GSA. They are also the largest employer of unskilled labor across the galaxy meaning that through them the lower classes of society get there cash flow making them the largest employer across the nation and Midlothian.

United Agriculture:

Food, clean water, clean air, the three things that people need more than anything to survive, as such is the motto United Agriculture. United agriculture has little physical presence on Midlothian aside from office building and small scale biolabs. The Majority united agricultures workers are off world working on large argiworlds. But the grip of United Ag is still powerful as they control the food and water supplies across all of Midlothian.

Name: Adrin Payt

Age: 31

Sex: Male

Appearance: Adrin is a slightly below-average height dog with white/grey fur and pointed ears that stand up. He is thin and not particularly muscular, but tries to keep a pristine appearance and good personal hygiene. He has few major distinguishing features, which suits him perfectly well.

History: Adrin was born to a hard working but low ranking family several levels below the surface. He was engrained from an early age with the ideas of working hard, keeping your head down and staying out of trouble, and the family as a whole made a conscious effort to avoid any criminal activities, no matter how minor. It was common for members of the family to give evidence to the security forces about 'shady looking characters' who were living nearby, and many a family meal was taken up by hushed, disapproving talk of the unruly teenagers down the road, or the "wrong'uns", as Adrin's father described them, who actively promoted a non-corporate run world. Due to their consistent good service, the family made moderate advances in the world of business, meaning that while they never got anywhere impressive, the could at least live comfortably, and their continuing willingness to cooperate with investigations meant that some police officers would keep a particular watch on their house or street, if only to ensure that the stream of information was kept open.

Adrin performed slightly above-average throughout his education, particularly in the areas of art, physics and graphic design. Several teachers encouraged him to pursue this by studying mechanical design under an SDI or Novaship scholarship, but his family, despite having the money (only just), decided that such a radical career path was not in Adrin or his community's best interests, and he eventually found a job printing slogans. Though the work was dull and unskilled, Adrin didn't complain, as it was not in his nature to do so. Fortunately for him, he happened to make a passing remark to a higher-up about rearranging the lettering on one of the posters. This suggestion eventually reached the marketing team who trialled it and found the public almost 3% more receptive to the new design. Adrin was instantly promoted to designing the layout of the signs themselves, and later adverts/commercials, until his (uncredited) work could be seen throughout many of the levels of Midlothian. He has no control over what the signs contain, but simply arranges the text, chooses the font, basic backgrounds, sound levels if applicable and so on. However, he sees this as a brilliant career and is incredibly enthusiastic about it, accepting all of the slogans he is given as hard fact and memorising every one to re-read in his spare time. His favourite hobby is attempting to write his own slogans, and one (out of hundreds) was eventually picked up and can be seen on the 4th - 8th levels. To this moment in his life, he sees being able to create this one slogan as his greatest achievement.

Adrin's daily routine is to catch up on the news in the morning over coffee (tutting over reports of crime or dissent, nodding along to the words of official spokespersons) then to travel the few levels up to his shared office, stay several hours after his shift has finished working on his own personal slogans and adverts, then travelling home to eat, sleep and repeat. He does not feel that there is any monotony in this life and feels happy to 'do his bit'.

Gear: News slate, work tablet and coffee cup (cannot create coffee, but instantly reheats the drink inside at the press of a button). Regular issue office uniform (details at Nelle's discretion)

Implants: Chip in brain to store information (currently filled with thousands of designs and slogans, mostly work related and a few done for pleasure) which can be scanned through similar to a computer interface, an eye enhancement that allows him to see data as though they were holograms, so if he is working on a billboard design that will be 20ft tall, he can stand back and see it appear before him, meaning he can change it at the scale that it will be produced. Of course only he can see these 'projections', but his eyes turn a static, flickering blue while he is using the implant. He was originally offered contacts for this purpose, but found that he repeatedly lost or broke them.

Ahem: Yes. I did just make an entire post so that I could end it with a very corny pun. Please don't complain. It's Christmas after all, and that was my gift to me.

Also for the record, that post (my second) is meant to have taken place in the time between my first and the moment where Mr White is knocked out of the window. In other words, they're not all ignoring their boss being killed. To them it hasn't happened yet.

I have a bit of a dilemma here: Do I make a post that is more productive and makes my character more likely to interact with the other PCs, or do I make a post that is absolutely not productive but is most in-keeping with my character and his personality?
