So it looks as if the MechWarrior Online game that was mentioned earlier isn't the only MechWarrior game in development. Today saw the release of a teaser trailer for MechWarrior: Tactical Command, which I am guessing may be an RTS or a TBS type game. It's hard to tell that from the trailer though, since it doesn't show any actual gameplay, just a bunch of mechs blowing each other up, which is fine by me.
I'm going to reign in my enthusiasm until there is more news. Companies have too often proven that money is more important to them than game-player loyalty. Meaning, a MORPG is probably more likely, because revenue projections are likely higher - with a fraction of the cost of making a full, stand-alone mission-based game for the single player.
To me, this is kind of like if Hollywood studios just started to produce nothing but movies for kids. Kids' movies are cheaper to produce because they have less complex plots, and kids are easier to please than adults. Cheaper for the movie makers to make, with great revenues from the kids who want to see the movies.
But what about the rest of us movie-goers?
It'd be nice if there was more than one version of the game coming out. But I'm not going to hold my breath.
Yours truly,

Well that's what I'm saying Rick, this is another game entirely. The MMOG is one game, and this is another game. Moreover, I'm hearing that there is actually a THIRD game in the works as well. I think the idea at this point is to reboot MechWarrior completely and to tailor the games to their strongest platform. So while we know of these two, the third one will likely be the single player campaign based game we've wanted.

Well, I'll tentatively extend some enthusiasm, then. I won't hold my breath, mind, but I reserve judgement until the people who are making this, play their hand.
We'll see, in other words, won't we?

Now that's some good news for a change. I've feared the MW games were dead after this long period of silence from the company that bought the rights. I'll try to contain my enthusiasm until they present us with something more than a teaser. But, a new Mech Commander game? Hell yeah!

We'll have to wait and see. Tactical Command looks like it may be an iOS game, but who knows, maybe it will make its way to the PC or consoles. Then there's the MMO game, which I think could work really well if done right. So, that leaves a possibility for a third game, a tradicional single player game. Will they do it? Who knows, but it seems like they're trying to really re-establish the franchise in a big way.
