Default What did you read this year?

I'm curious to know what you guys have been reading this year. I can say that thanks to Audible, I've managed to read/listen to close to thirty books. Here's a summary of what sorts of things I listened to.

    • Re-read all 14 books in The Wheel of Time series.
    • Re-Read Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga
    • Re-read Peter F. Hamilton's Void Trilogy
    • Re-read Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings
    • Reamde by Neal Stephenson
    • Zero History by William Gibson
    • Ready Player One by Ernest Kline
    • The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson
    • The Saga of the Seven Suns books 1-4 by Kevin J Anderson
    • Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
    • Ghost in the Wires by Kevin Mitnick
    • Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
    • In The Plex by Steven Levy
    • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
    • The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
    • Solaris by Stanislaw Lenn

Quite a mix there, as you can see. If you have any questions about any of those, please feel free to ask me about them.

I've kinda been all over the place. Most of the books I've read have been art books or comic books. Needless to say one of my new years resolutions is to finish the pile of books currently residing on my bed. Problem is I keep buying more books

Wow, Daryn, that's pretty impressive! I don't think I come anywhere near that! Still, let's have a think...

All Quiet on the Western Front - Erich Maria Remarque
Ender's game - Orson Scott Card
A Canticle for Leibowitz - Walter M. Miller jr
    Vile Bodies - Evelyn Waugh
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - Muriel Spark
Blacksad (Ok, so it's a graphic novel, but still, I read it)
    Utopia - Thomas More
Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad
Turn of the Screw - Henry James
    Animal Farm - George Orwell
Lots of plays. Can't really be bothered to list them right now.
Half of Pnin - Vladmir Nabokov (I expect to have the rest finished before Christmas)
Half of Riddley Walker - Russel Hoban (who sadly died last week. Only found that out today)
A few chapters of Vernon God Little - DBC Pierre. It's bad. Don't read it.
A few books of poetry, a book of short stories. Oh, also maybe half of a book of post-apoc short stories. I think I got that this year...

That should be about everything. It's honestly hard to remember quite when I read what...

Edit: Oh, I think I also read The Ring of Solomon - Jonathan Stroud this year. Possibly. Maybe?

Tis all I read this year that I can name.
I have read one book in the wheel of time series, but that is about the only thing I think I recognize so far.

    Jupiter - Ben Bova
Leviathans of Jupiter - Also Ben Bova
Fall of Reach - can't remember
Enders Game(And speaker for the dead) - Orson Scott Card
    Watchmen (It counts dammit! XP)
a few books/short story collections by Ray Brabury

Working on Semper Mars, a reread of The zombie survival guide, Quicker than the eye and I just picked up Battlefield Earth the other day...none of which will probably be done this year...mayyybe Quicker if I get off my ass and put down the controller for a bit XP but it's doubtful XP

It's pretty good the art is amazing (as always with anything blotch does) and it has a solid story that's easy to follow and the characters are extremely like able. I give it 4 and a half paws out of 5.

Oh, I forgot: JG Ballard'sHigh Rise, which was very good, and Lousie Lawrence's Children of the Dust, which... ah... wasn't. Well no, it wasn't actually that bad, but the last third ruined it for me.
Also Tank Girl, I think (another graphic novel). May have been late last year though.

Yeah, well some are quite weighty, aren't they :p
I'm not counting some of the slimmer ones, but some are really about a novel's worth (I mean you get through them slightly faster, but still).

I tend to be a fairly fast reader, but sometimes I go very slow. Generally when I'm not enjoying it or am finding it difficult, and then occasionally seemingly at random. Dune and Book of Dave, both of which I enjoyed a lot, took me months to get through.

there was a one book I stared and absolutely didn't like was age of ra mostly cause one really long winded chapter that could have taken a lot less to get through and still have enough detail to move the story along

It's weird for me because I never really know how many pages a book is. Seeing that I'm listening to audioboks. I tend to steer towards long books. For me a short book is anything below 15 hours.
