Writing commissions?

This is purely speculative, just to see if any interest exists at all, but would anyone be interested if I opened up writing commissions? They would likely be quite cheap, since I need practice anyway, and I am willing to try a lot of different genres, so long as they're short (I might offer longer, more expensive pieces, but for those I'd only take genres that interest me, like Sci-fi. I consider a short piece to be less than 5000 words, so there is wiggle-room even if I'm not a fan of the subject matter).

As a very basic guide, I'd say maybe $5-10 a page? I tend to average at about 550 words a page. Actually, I might price it by wordcount... Whatever, that would come later.

I would have the right to turn down any subject matters I particularly didn't want to write, but I'd be open to any suggestions. I wouldn't hold it against you even if I did turn it down, it would simply be because my better work is, of course, when I'm passionate about what I'm writing.

In any case, I won't be opening to commissions any time soon, no matter how good a response I might get, except perhaps a small amount over each major holiday break (Christmas, Easter, Summer) but I was curious to see if the interest might be there for when I finish University in a year and a half's time. I should have a lot more writing on here by then so people will be able to see if they think I'm good enough or not.

Oh, excellent! To be honest I wasn't really expecting replies XD

Brome, it depends exactly what kind of TF, but most I'm absolutely fine with. Werewolves were one of the things that brought me into the fandom, and one of the request stories I've done in the past was TF. It was actually going to be a long-term project, but I wasn't comfortable with where it was heading. Still, if I can find the first chapter I wrote for it I'll send it to you.

And Rick, thank you very much! If both of you want, you can send me a PM whenever with an idea and we'll talk details. I can't promise anything, and of course I haven't decided on prices yet (though these would be negotiable anyhow, especially among fellow SciFiFur folk), but what I'm hoping is that I can get all of my Uni work done before Christmas. I have no exams when I get back, which means that I'd be free to work on things like this from early to mid January (I'm counting Christmas - New Years as personal time :p). This might not go as planned, and I might not have time to write full short stories for several months, but I won't ask for payment or anything until I know I'll have the time to do them.

Thanks again, and this might serve to spur me on to finish my essays as well. If I know I want the spare time later to work on stories then I'll want to finish Uni work ASAP :p
