Ok so i didn't know where this would actually fall in the forums so i decided to put it here.

I just saw on the news that the stones in stonehenge came from 160 miles away from where it is. I thought this was cool cause of all the theories surrounding the landmark and figured i'd share with the rest of you guys and see what you think about it.

Any theories or ideas would be a great discussion.

I'm afraid I'm going to start this off with the boring explanation that I heard for it, which was that slaves were made to drag the rocks up to Stonehenge by placing them on horizontal logs. The logs would be rolled, and then as soon as one came out the back it was picked up and placed at the front again.

Of course it could also have been aliens... :p

I thought it was old news that the stones used at Stonehenge were transported from distant locations.

In any case, the explanation is simple. In those times before TV and Internet people had little to do for entertainment, so pushing huge stones around was a lot more appealing than is looks now.

There was another apparatus similar to rowing a boat that could have been used. Basically two sets of like 8 wood poles would be wedged on either side of the stone, then used as levers to life the stone and move it forward.

and i can imagine several scenarios in which the participants might not actually have been slaves as such. a bit like an olympic torch thing, as it passes through the jurisdiction of each village. may have been a bit more then 8 treetunks on each side though, with maybe four or more stout hardy's on each one. to honor the godessess and gods and bragging rights. people STILL do so pretty crazy stuff for both! and if it took for ever to do it that way, who cares, look at the size of that thing.

its not what stands or falls, but what its replaced by or evolves into, that we actually have to live with.
