    Default Exiles of Sol

    The year was 2054, and humanity was experiencing a golden age. World Hunger and the energy crisis which had plagued the early 21st century had been all but eradicated by new technologies like Hydroponics towers, GM food, and renewable resources. In the year 2037 NASA along with the European Space Agency successfully diverted an asteroid's orbit which gave it a one and twenty chance of hitting the earth. It seemed humanity was untouchable.

    The universe however, had one more trick to throw at Earth. A Coronal Mass Ejection or CME. Scientists had long been forecasting the earth's sun spot and solar flare activity, by 2054 they could predict CME's and flares down to the day. To the horror of astronomers and physicists, there models indicated that in then ten years a massive CME, larger then any previously recorded would occur.

    The Electro-magnetic effects alone would render most technology inoperable. The true danger however was the superheated ball of plasma that would impact the Earth's atmosphere. The impact side of the planet would see its atmosphere superheated, boiling oceans and torching forests that have stood for millions of years. The opposite side of the planet would fair no better as super-hot high speed winds would decimate the nightward face of Earth. The climate would be irrevocably changed as the seas boil and atmosphere roasts, leaving nothing but a hot arid planet with seas so salty they would be undrinkable.

    At once the UN called a special session. The greatest countries of the earth began joint construction of the largest space craft built by human hands. Capable of carrying one thousand people in cryostasis and equipped a with a computer capable to carrying the combined knowledge and culture of humanity, its role was singular, preserve humanity. Construction was rushed. It would be equipped with large solar sails to ride the solar winds and remains of the CME to safety, and a state of the Art ion drive to propel it through the cold dark stretches of inter-solar space.

    Three hundred years after the impact of the CME and the ship's launch it putters on between Star Systems, where it is discovered by aliens. While searching the ship they accidently activate its waking protocols, bringing Humanity into the galactic community.....

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Alrighty lets see if THIS rp goes anywhere By humans I MEAN humans. If you choose a human character you will be one of the 100 survivors that has been kept on the ship. If you wish to have a Anthro-Character you will be one of the alien races that discovers the ship! So lets get this started shall we?
    Human characters were selected by a computer program designed to preserve racial and age diversity while choosing families and people with survival skills like doctors, engineers, contractors. There were also five soldiers from the US, Russia, and Great Britain onboard with their weapons.
    Here goes....
    Name: Khan Teufelson
    Age: 37
    Former Occupation: Chief Administrator of Theoretical Particle Interactions and Tertiary Statistician for Data Processing at the Trans-Global Mid-Atlantic Particle Accelerator Lab. ((glorified particle physicist))
    Description: A rather large man, Khan is a jovial figure. He stands at around 6 1/2 foot, and weighs a 'healthy' 280 pounds. With light brown hair, and a rather sanguine complexion - always complimented by a smile - it takes little more than a jar of baby powder to turn him into the perfect Santa Claus. Hell joke about pretty much anything, and regularly has all of his colleagues in stitches with his playful antics.This isnt to say, however, that he cant be angered, or that he doesnt have his more sinful indulgences.
    History: Graduating Yale with a slew of degrees and certifications in many intensely obscure fields of theoretical physics, he at once gears a high paying job at a notable particle physics lab. With a keen mathematical mind, and a knack for understanding multivariable particle interactions, he is rather quickly propelled to the status of Chief Administrator of the Theoretical Particle Interactions Department at the newly constructed Trans-Global Particle Accelerator Lab (T-PAL), a massive particle accelerator - the product of much international engineering effort - that spans the whole of the Earth, forming a perfect circle along the 40º latitudinal line. Being one of only a handful of people with the vast range of expertise needed to fully understand the systems of transport upon the Ark, and the youngest among that small sub group, he was a natural choice to be aboard the vessel. Although he mourns the loss of the rest of humanity, he understands the need for exclusivity, and is comforted by his wife and children, as well as a few close friends for whom he pulled a few strings, aboard the vessel.
    OoC: Nice idea, reminds me of a Titan AE/Remenant-style universe I had going for awhile. Although are you sure it should be only a hundred? It would be difficult to maintain genetic diversity for more then a few generations if the pool is that small.
    I had thought about this too but the main problem I see is building a vessel large enough to house 1000 people and still be able to launch it. Only way I could see that was if it was built in orbit and the people were shuttled up to it. Which I suppose is a possibility.....
    *nods* Or you could change the male/female ratios but that would force some regulations on the players. Just thinking aloud.
    Well, all considered, orbital launch is much more likely anyways. Launching the whole thing from earth requires roughly 2.8 mega-wompums of ultra-energy, if my calculations are accurate. I think 1000 is a better number for preserving genetic diversity, as well as for pure survival chances - more people, more chance.
    Please keep in mind for human players sake I'm trying to keep people in the dark for the sake of the story so sketchy details will be fleshed out
    Name:Ramas Eegtias
    Age:24
    Race:Akalian (hey, it works )
    Occupation: Xenobiologist
    Description: Physically the Akalians are felines resembling huminoid lions from Earth. They are digigraded, and have a larger lung capacity when compared to other races leading to better phsyical endurance. Unlike lions Akalians do not grow mains. Males often have tribal markings on thier faces to mark the particular house they descend from though this practice has begun to fade due to the passage of time.
    Ramas wears standard crew grey jumpsuit. He uses a holographic wrist projector to connect to his personal Computer carried on his waste. Unlike others in his generation he chooses to wear the dark black marking of his house, this is likely due to the heavy influence his family placed on family history.
    History: Too be revealed. Can't post without plot points
    Not sure if I have what it takes to RP on a message board after RPOL and Yahoo clubs burnt me out but here goes:
    Human:
    Name- Mylo Lyonheart (because naming him Steamwitz would be too corny)
    Age- 25
    Prior Occupation- Material Engineering grad student with a specialization in nanotech fabrication (if that is an invalid technology I'll change it.)
    Physical Description- Small, unassuming human male of medium build (by Terran measurements that is.) Narrow, almost chiseled face with dirty blond hair and blue eyes behind a pair of wire-framed glasses. Dresses in Dilbert-esque business casual; shirt and dress pants.
    Biography- If given the choice, Mylo would have traded his place to someone else and would have gladly spent what little of his life remained with his family and girlfriend; both left behind when he won the lottery system and was sent up into the void. For the first time in his life, Mylo cursed himself for being smart enough to earn a place amongst the other refugees. Now, surrounded by strangers and space aliens, he remains convinced that he has hit rock bottom or close to it.
    Personal Possession of note- A small PDA, that in addition to running his data software, containing a photo album of his family and lover plus PDF copies of rulebooks for the AT-43 miniatures game and several pen and paper RPG rule books; all science-fiction. Considering how he's now the guest of alien scientists and explorers, he regrets not having a copy of Lord of the Rings thrown in for good measure.
    Anthro: (now for a species I'd never really played before)
    Name- Lynnian Aurila
    Age- 24
    Species- Orca/Killer Whale (or the equivalent)
    Occupation- Oceanographer and Marine Scientist (specialty to be decided on at a later date)
    Physical Description- A big girl by most species reckoning, Lynnian is seen as a behemoth among many of the curious furless aliens. Standing a full seven feet tall and weighing in at about four hundred and fifty pounds (Earth English measurements,) Lynnian's appearance would have been the perfect straight line for a big and hungry girl joke if people weren't so intimidated by her.
    Lynnian is not a "clothes horse" kind of girl, seen on the ship in either her wetsuit or ship uniform. Civilian dress is a form-fitting swimming unitard, unusual fashion for most species but typical of a somewhat bulky creature hailing from a culture used to swimming in many different temperatures.
    History- A relatively young Orca fresh out of the science academy, Lynnian is a bright, intelligent young female who feels she has to prove something; she'll become quite a researcher later in her life, assuming her career survives the pitfalls of field work and academic politics.
    The whole time I was reading this "Fat Girl in a Little swimsuit" was playing through my head xD Looks good except that I was hoping for some alien races that arn't direct anthropomorphizations of earth animals, could you elaborate on your race just a little bit more?
    Well I respect everyone trying to do two characters but I would almost prefer 1 well detailed character. Right now the second guy seems like an after thought that was thrown in for the hell of it. I'm saying you can't use two characters but I want two CHARACTERS. Not 1 character with a trusty 2D side kick.
    Hmm, I think I may throw my own alien char in as well.
    Name: Närilkh Serliïhjqáç¨, called Liky by most due to the abundance of unpronounceable sounds in his name.
    Race: Dunkeldrachen. ((Playing via Star Trek rules for aliens: Humanoid, generally. A very tall figure, very remeniscent of the movie Predator. His people are of muscular build, jet black skin, and have bony, skinless predatory faces, with a set of thin tentacles coming out the back. In general, they are actually peaceful, but peace is often enforced with less-than-peaceful methods))
    Descripton: Of normal build for his species, those who can read his races very subtle facial markers would say he has a very calculating, predatory, militaristic look, even for an already alarming-looking species. His tentacles reach down to his knees, like a 60's rocker mane, a sign of fertility among his kind. His bare arms are adorned with criss crossing bands of purple symbols, tattoos, vivid against the black skin, denoting rank and status. He wears a rather utilitarian looking vest, along with similarly styled pants, almost remeniscent of fatigues. He has an orderly mind, and will organize things in his spare time with somewhat OCD-like tendencies. This is considered normal for his species, who crave order above all. Aside from that, he is a rather benign fellow, despite his menacing look, and will even crack the occasional joke amongst friends. He has an intense interest in music, somewhat odd but not unheard of nor looked down upon by his kind.
    Job/Occupation:Administrator of Protocol. Basically, a specialist in first contact, as well as general beauracrat and peace keeper.
    History: Torn between his races ancestral professions as either military police for other races conquered worlds, or beauracrat, he opts for the latter. With a keen mind for optimization, he excels at his studies and finally settles on shipboard administration as his career choice. Hoping he might find some oddity to grab his interest, he nabs a minor certification in intercultural communications, with a special emphasis on first contact, so that he can get hired by one of the deeper-space ships. His knack at efficiency quickly launches him to the modest, yet somewhat meritous rank of Protocol Administrator.
    1. Its fine
    2. Your character is good I'm just griping
    Now for a more serious issue.... How are we going to organize the RP? Should we maintain one thread as the story thread or do a system like Reaper's and break off? I'm leaning towards the 1 thread at least to start out since we're all generally in one area.
    Now for a more serious issue.... How are we going to organize the RP? Should we maintain one thread as the story thread or do a system like Reaper's and break off? I'm leaning towards the 1 thread at least to start out since we're all generally in one area.
    1. Thanks
    2. Welcome, I'll work on it as I go anyway. Perhaps her culture shares shamanistic traits with the Inuits...
    3. I've seen both systems working in different respects. On RPOL we had a few RPGs where different threads denoted different locations (as you mentioned) and that worked fairly well except for when players had to be brought up to speed with whatever their compatriots were doing.
    With one thread, we know where everything is but sometimes we loose track of what we were doing or what we know.... I have no preference.
    My system works better if you plan on having multiple plot lines(Along with dozens if not hundreds of mini arks) that converge and break at different points with the DM being the main driving force behind the events of the RP and if your you plan on a signal plot line and have the all the players in a signal place one thread will work wonderfully.
    Right so far now we will be content with one thread. Should we wait for anyone else or are we ready to go?
    2643 Glactic Uniform Time
    Deep Space Research Vessel Gullos
    Deck 6, Crew Quarters
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In the darkened sleeping quarters the majority of the scientific staff rested in their species specific beds. The night crew consisted mostly of junior officers and bare-bones shifts in engineering and on the bridge. The hallways were darkened to save energy and the crew compartments weren't rotated to provide gravity during evening hours when everyone was asleep. Or rather everyone minus one. One suite showed signs of life by way of the steady tapping of keys that could be heard.

    Inside Ramas Eegtias drifted with a personal data pad in his hand. Most of his personal effects were secured by magnets on his desk so they didn't drift off during the Zero-gravity hours, but his normal day uniform floated past him. Though it was generally not a good idea to let objects float or fear of it striking electronics or some other sensitive equipment he was notorious for not keeping a clean room. A habit left over from his Academy and rebel years.

    Even though a dirty room might net him some dirty stares from his more senior colleagues that was the last problem on his mind. What was bothering him was a letter he was trying to type. I signed up for six months, she knew I would be gone but another four? I'm not sure I could wait that long, he sighed to himself. The 'she' he was referring to was his soon-to-be mate he had met at the academy. While she studied cultures and history he studied Xeno-biology. When he was offered the rather prestigious graduate position on the Gullos he could hardly refuse.

    Even though she had disliked the idea of him being gone for six months she had given her blessing and promised to wait he didn't know if you she could take what he was trying to type. He had just learnt the program had been extended and they would be surveying system further out in the arm. All in all it would be another two months before he returned. She's waited this long why would she pull out now? He thought, as he typed his message, stopped, reread it, then hit the clear button to start over for the seventh time. His eyes were drawn to rotating holographic image of her on his desk. As he watched her slowly rotate in the darkness he felt a pang of home-sickness, not his first one lately.

    Sighing he put the pad into standby mode and pulled himself toward his bed. Before he could strap himself in the intercom beeped to life. "Please standby, Hull rotation commencing," the synthetic voice of the computer said in the omni-present galactic standard language.

    "What?" Ramas asked to the room before he was suddenly pinned to his bed by the initial inertia from rotation. Struggling back to his feet he tried to calm the his stomach, sudden returns of gravity had never been pleasant for him. Cringing his curved his tail up beside him. It had been caught in a rather bad position between him and his bed. While he tried to rub the pain out his tail the intercom activated again, this time with a living being's voice, "All research staff, we've found something, get dressed, and get to the mess hall for briefing."

    Found something? That help alot, Ramas thought as he let go of his bruised tail and grabbed his uniform off the floor and began dressing......

    Lynnian had fallen fast asleep, dreaming about the cool, azure oceans of her home world. Swimming through the frigid waters of her home planet, she dreamed that she was reunited with her pod and was chasing after an entire school of her favorite kind of fish...
    The announcement pierced through her sleep like a railgun slug. Groaning, the Cecetican crawled out of bed and fumbled around for her ship's uniform. The soft fabric felt good against her rubbery black and white skin as she shambled towards the doorway, her stomach groaned slightly.
    "Oh quiet, you can wait until breakfast." She said in response before walking out of her quarters and towards the mess.
    Lynnian Aurila was a Cecetican, a lifeform evolved to swim in the polar oceans of her homeworld. Despite an initial temperature shock, Lynnian's species adapted to warmer waters just fine, making them ideal oceanic explorers.
    Mentally she wondered what the announcement was about, they weren't near any oceanic planets... not since two months ago. What could they have found that required all the staff?

    Alien Sheet:

    Name:

    themnax of lananara, xenogeophysics grad student, university of nebethira on lananara and apprentice navigator on the university of nebethira deep space research vessel dsv Elthoniel

    Age:

    37 lananran years (19 years physiological earth human equivelent, 25 years earth human educational equivelent.)

    Race:

    lananaran (large green furred bipedal quasi-felloid)

    Occupation: xenogeophysics grad student

    Description: scholastically average, somewhat a-socially inclined, but then so are lananarans generally. more then half of us live as hermits. the remainder in interest group families of cognitive kin

    History: lived in many small villages growing up as father was what was called a speaker to vapour dragons, what humans would call a railroad telegrapher. only by the grace of lananaran upper school being free did themnax manage to get in to one of the best geology schools on the planet.

    spent most of his pujzhush (traditional lananaran two year intereducational sabbatical between lower and upper school) pretty much just wandering around and enjoying the hospitality normally extended to pujzhushees. loves guideway based surface transportation, much as his father hated having to work for it do to his (themnax's father's) lack of more advanced education (do in turn to HIS wanderlust at that age).

    now crewing and taking classes at the same time aboard his univesity's exploration vessel.
    a vessel now responding to an unfamiliar but obviously mechanically originated distress signal

    (i'm guessing it's autotransmitting do to the unscheduled awaikenings in progress (?))

    (also at this point, as student and apprentice, not participating in his own ships executive council, which has chosen to take a closer look at this unfamiliar alien (to us lananarans) vessle, which seems to have a large number of life forms of unfamiliar origen onboard)

    Alien Sheet:
    Name: Rensit Saartier

    Age: 15 Tarthian years. (Approximately equivalent to 24 Earth years)

    Race: Tarthian

    Occupation: Engineer

    Description: A quick glance at a Tarthian has them looking vaguely canine, except for their wings. Fur color is most often various shades of blue, though there is the occasional purple. Their tails are fairly long, reaching almost to the ground. They aren't quite dexterous to be called prehensile, but they can be used to pick up some things. A large concentration of iron in the skin on their hands feels like scales and acts like a weak magnet. Traditional Tarthian technology, and many personal-use items still used, made use of that natural magnet as part of the input. They're too weak for much else, though some have found ways to turn it into an impromptu compass.
    Rensit has dark blue fur and is exactly 6' tall, if he ever stood up straight. He's usually looking over something as he walks, either a small gadget or information on a pad. Unless he's talking to someone, in which case he's looking in some random direction until he says something. Often chooses not to wear a shirt, unless he has to. Carries his uniform top with him to wear in case he ever has to, but doesn't like how it feels against his wings.

    History: Whenever he was left alone when he was young, he would try and dismantle something. As soon as he thought he understood how it worked, he would try to put it back together. Quickly deciding he wanted to be an engineer, he did his best to get accepted to the acadamy of his choice. He always seems to have more questions to ask, especcially when talking about machines. There are some social concepts he doesn't understand, like "personal space" for instance. He never intends to be rude, he simply spent too much time with machines and not enough with people. He has about a dozen half-finished ideas in his notes for various machines and devices, though it's unlikely he'll ever finish them.

    Rensit woke up when he hit the floor, wondering when he left the bed this time. He was still waking up when the briefing was called. "Found something? What's 'something' mean? A rock? We're the only ones out here, aren't we?" He got dressed as he normally did, heading to the mess hall with his uniform shirt over his shoulder. "I guess I'll find out when I get there.

    Warmth....
    The vacuum of mental and biological inactivity, warm only for the fact that the cold could not be felt. The bio-stasis pumps surrounding the stasis pod were slowing ever so... Gradually, over the course of hours, the hours since the auto-piloted ship had detected its cousin, unrelated in descent, but in design and purpose, the ten pods had been entering the wake-up cycle. The ten minds and bodies inside imperceptibly creep into a functioning state. Three hundred years, had the minds drifted in the false death of oblivion; three hundred years had death rattled their cages of ice, infuriated at the souls that had died, but that his fingers, traced with nothingness as they were, could not touch , so long as those filaments of life, fed to them by loyal slaves of their own creation, kept them bouyant in that existential sea of being. An age in its own right had passed during their long journey. An Age of Sleep.

    A dream... Of home and of family. The mists of sleep drift around the man, awareness trickling like sand in an hour glass into his mind. He was home. And then he wasn't. Now he was on the sea. Here and there, he sees night critters scutter about in the forest. Then, as he determines that he is in fact on a giant plain, he looks around at the damp cave walls. Ever present, the mist, transparent yet suffocating and fog-like plays around him. Slowly, imperceptibly, it thins. Slowly, imperceptibly, he wakes.

    The mess hall was crowded with blearily eyed research staff. If one hadn't been use it the the sight would have been incredible. Roughly twenty researchers of different races and disciplines all crowded into one room. The seats were re-configurable to accommodate the variety of postures and different anatomies.

    Ramas stood on the tips of his paws as he craned to see over the crowd for a spare seat. He spotted a near empty table nearest to the serving line and made a bee line to catch a bipedal chair. The mess hall staff were also beginning to wheel out carts full of different morning drinks for each of the races. Teas, coffees, and even straight up stim packs were snatched off the passing carts. Ramas snatched a steaming hot cup of Telrisian Tea. Not concentrating he immediately took a deep gulp of the steaming liquid resulting in scorched muzzle. Sputtering he jerked the cup away from his mouth shouting Akalian curses as he did resulting in dirty swears from the linguist in the room.

    "Sorry, its hot," he rasped as the nerves in his mouth protested to their midnight scorching. He coughed as he pushed the cup down the table away from him. As his scorched nerves calmed their angry protests his attention was drawn to a rather intimidating Dunkeeldrachen.....

    Three hundred years is a long time to be having mock miniatures battles and game master sci-fi RPGs for yourself even if you could recount the general plots of nearly half a dozen sci-fi classics. Yet with everything but his mind in stasis, he had to do something to keep his thoughts from wandering back to... Them. His family, his lover. All gone... with his body frozen, time seemingly froze with it.
    As a small flicker of warmth started to flow through his veins, the mind worried. While the change in temperature was like feeling a kiss of the winds of Siberia on his face after being encased in a iceberg on the north pole, it still was worrisome. Warmth meant waking, waking meant thinking, thinking meant... memories. Memories he was not ready to face just yet.
    ---------
    Being the largest sapient on staff had a few obvious perks for Lynnian. For starters, it was obvious which seat was meant for her physiology. It also meant that there were few beings willing to pick a fight with her for it. Lynnian silently wished people weren't so intimidated by her... or assumed she was just this big dumb oaf as a few had back in the academy. Pushing these thoughts out of her mind, it would do her no good to dwell on the hazings she endured once leaving home for outer space, she picked up a small pack of stimulants and bowl of fish paste. While her species has long since evolved past eating raw fish, she had to admit that even uncooked meat would have been more appetizing then the goop she was eating. Still, food was food and a slender female was considered horrible stock for breeding in her culture. Just another thing for her to try and get used to when immersed in the galaxy at large.
    Slowly spooning the fish paste into her mouth, her eyes scanned for someone to tell them what was going on.

    The tall figure stalks about the mess hall, waiting. A whole three minutes since the announcement. He supposes they can be forgiven, considering the impromptu and unpracticed nature of the call, but it still irked him. Seeing the various staff lounging on the mess benches irked him too, in the tiniest way. He was just so used to seeing his own people at attention. He gives his races equivelant of a sigh, a faint series of high-pitched clicks emitting from the sound organ just below his face bone. He grabs a cold beverage from the cart as it passes his way. As the last of the staff show up, he stands in front of them, waiting for silence. After a moment, their murmuring stops. His voice, a braided weave of harmonic vibrations, underlain by constant clicks, reverbrates in the empty mess: "As many of you may not know, at exactly 2630, only sixteen minutes ago, a space ship was detected along our path. Preliminary sensory probing found nothing unusual - no heavy armament, and indeed perhaps no weapons at all. No shield generators even. However, one peculiarity was found: It has enormous mass. Quite enough to rebuild our ship thrice over. Thats when more in depth detection discovered Two more peculiarities: This ship has one thousand life forms aboard it - all humanoid and of regular mass. And, the ship is of completely unknown origin - its trajectory places its home almost one hundred light years away. Ladies and gentlemen, we have discovered an as of yet heretofore undiscovered race." He looks about at his crew mates, to gauge their reactions

    The lights of the bio lab had been dimmed for the reptile in the lab could work in piece, not that bright light was anything new to him. Coming from a world with three suns made him accustom to very bright light, but his experiments required darkness more than anything. The lights that did shine where in the near ultraviolet giving the room a dark purple glow. The experiment itself was a test of exotic species of microbes that could used in his neurological experiments, and surgeries.

    "All research staff; we've found something, get dressed, and get to the mess hall for briefing."

    “Figures” Harper said a loud, but it wasn’t auditable over the sound of the music the being played over the labs speaker, it was not part of protocol in the least but he didn’t care for that much, it got in the way of his work. He got up about five minutes later heading for the airlock. His lab was still in a zero environment even though the rest of the ship had returned to it one gee state, it sudden reinstatement of gravity would have ruined his experiments. He floated across the lab to the doors. There was an airlock that leads to the rest of the ship from the lab but it had restricted access from the outside. The lab itself was a gamma level bio hazard area meaning that Harper was in full hazmat gear when he exited the lab, after the mandatory cleaning procedures Harper donned a jacket that signaled him as one of the medical staff, and head of the biological research onboard.

    Harper made his way to the mess, he figured being up for the last 32 hours he was one of the few fully awake of anyone on board, contrary to his outward appearances his body was swimming with millions of organic micro machines one there funtions was to increase his stamina that didn't mean he didn't sleep he just did it less often. None the less he still had an unhealthy addiction for coffee. After picking up a a cup of coffee he took a sip and scowled at it. "This is coffee?" He asked himself aloud, he took on of the stim packets on the table and after a little tinkering mixed it's contents into the "coffee" It changed colors from brown to odd looking blue. He took another sip. "Moderate improvement..." He said to himself taking a seat next to a Akalina.

    The damaged pod opened rather rudely, it warming cycle complete prematurely. A human could be seen falling, that is if anyone was looking, rather ungracefully out of his stasis pod. Not that it could be helped, he was not totally warmed yet, still in a state of of hypothermia. The sub persona of the ship registered this and warmed the surrounding area appropriately to 40C, warm by any standards but preservation of it's cache of tenants was hard wired into it's core code, as fundamental the 1's and 0's that constructed the command it self. The human was shivering uncontrollably trying to warm himself on the solid metal floor.....

    "Ladies and gentlemen, we have discovered an as of yet heretofore undiscovered race," the Dunkeeldrachen's annoucement rang around the room. Almost instantly shouts and questions began making the mess room look like a politcal rally. Ramas sat in stunned silence even as those around him shouted and talked excitedly. A new race? Out here? There weren't even inhabital planets in this star cluster, he thought to himself.

    "Do we know where they come from!?"

    "Are they bipedal!?"

    "What do we know about them!?" The question came up one after another as each person tried to get there questions soothed and the Dunkeel struggled to calm the crowd.

    Sighing Ramas turned to face the Eydouxii that had sat next to him. "Who would have thought we would find life way out here?" he asked casually over the din of the scientists....

    Rensit sipped his tea as he listened to the report. They didn't have his favorite tea, but he didn't mind most of the ones they did have. He was more interested in the ship. Origin was barely known, except that it was from a species they had yet to encounter. The size was incredible, that much space meant a lot of machines could be on it. No weapons or shields meant it wasn't a military vessel, but most large ships tend to have shield generators anyway. Used or not, they're still there most of the time. There was one thing that he had to ask about, though. Especially when there were 1000 lifeforms on board. He stood up and stretched his wings out to draw a bit more attention towards him before talking.

    "You haven't said anything about engines. Do we know how fast they've been travelling the entire time? Or how fast the ship can go? About how long it's been travelling? Or why they're out this far in something like that?" He tried to make himself be heard over the ruckus, but wasn't sure if the Dunkeeldrachen heard him or not.
