Your opinion is valid *Snigger snigger*
I have recently been bestowed the honour of being put in charge of the drama section of our beloved XAP (The Podcast you fools)
And as I am not a dictator, and as I greatly respect your collective opinions (Teeheehe-ahem. Sorry) I was wondering what kind of drama you guys'd like to hear.
So this is just a list, and I'd like you to give me your favourites;
1. Do you want it as a running continuous story, a series with the same characters but different stories each time, or just completely different sketches each time?
2. What kind of genre do you want? Ie. Do you want it to be light-hearted with a bit of humour, a lot of humour, completely serious?
Deep space Star Treky kinda thing? On a planet? Far future? Near future? Dystopian/post-Apocalypse?
Just give me a rough idea of what you'd like to see.
...
Or rather hear.

I personally would like to see a lot of variety. There could be some serious "Star Trek-ish" drama in one, and then something completely "Hitchhiker" in another, and everything in between. Also, having a large variety will give the Podcast the opportunity to draw upon many writers in our community; everyone who is interested will have a chance to have a go at writing something.
Another benefit of doing it this way, is for starters, there can be a large pot from which to choose. As time goes on, listeners will be drawn to genres they like the most, thereby giving XAP a better focus on where to proceed with their future program schedules.
As for my personal preferences, I like good, epic styled space dramas. I love to follow heroic characters, powerful villains, and all in a scale that grows as the stories progress.
Either way, looking forward to it, SliceOfDog. It is going to be nice to see what you come up with.

Thanks for that. I've started working on a 'ye olde' deep space kinda show, like real 60s style "The adventures of Captain Amazing and the Spaceship Lambada!!!"
That's gonna be a comedy, so I'll probably put the call out for people to write serious scripts to balance it out.

How about Jules Verne via the steampunk genre like 'From the Earth to the Moon' or a Victorian mecha 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'.

Personally, i think a continuous story would be best in a story ark format. That way you can switch out characters for each ark, but there also one larger over hanging story ark that droves the purpose of the story. I would personally like to see some ultra dark Cybergothic story telling. It something i don't get much of and would like to see more of it. Of course i'm only one person, and i realize that having a very dark mood for a story is oppressive to some. But you asked....

Re: Your opinion is valid *Snigger snigger*
Some great suggestions here, but I must admit I'm not an avid listener of any serious radio series. My area of expertise is very much comedy, and while I'm perfectly happy to expand outwards, I might need to hear a few examples before I can get the style down. Is it just like audio-books, or more speech driven?
Unless it's like audio-books, would anyone mind listing or (Even better if possible) linking to some series you like?
For the first podcast I think I'll have maybe 3 different short pieces (dramaettes if you will) and then you guys can pick which ones you all like :3

Gracias. I have some programs of my own, but their ability is very limited. For this comedy series I'm starting it should be fine, but more serious recordings would probably need your special brand of magic.

I'm afraid the only other one I know of is the H2G2 radio series, and I gather that you're already quite familiar with that. I don't think I can pick a favorite, but based on your description of your plans I think that you might want to pay particular attention to the Deck Gibson: Far Reach Commander shows (located in the showcase). You might also want to, for lack of a more audio-suited phrase, take a look at "Thinking in Ternary" and "Shinkei" (also in the showcase). I must say, I am quite looking forward to XAP.
