Babylon 6
So, anyone here a Babylon fan? I just finished watching all of the seasons recently and thought it looked to be a pretty promising series for the awesomeness that is rp. I would only be willing to start this up if people show enough interest, but as is let me give a few details of what I was thinking.
BIG note: Not everything here will be chronologically correct. I would like to play on some of the ending conflicts in the last season that seemed far too compact for my tastes and therefore not everything I put in here will be exactly as it was in the show. Still, I'll try to be as accurate as possible.
A quick recap
Babylon 5 was a station in a long line of stations made by humans to play host to every race that wished to try for peace between their fellow sentient beings in the universe. Through terrorism, bad planning and unexplained phenomena, the first four stations never came to their full potential. Babylon 5, however, proved to be just what it was made for; a hub of peace.
The station outlasted a very long and brutal Shadow War only to end up annexing itself from the original builders, the humans. A free roaming station held by the support and comfort of the various races that lived within its depths, it was almost like a city of its own with no sovereign right to any one race.
Upon the departure of many key personnel from the station and supposed peace throughout the galaxy, it was finally decided that the station had outlived its usefulness. It was decommissioned in the year 2272.
(This was a very brief recap. Ask me for more sources if you want to learn more about Babylon 5)
The current setting and situation
The year is 2301 and this is Babylon 6.
29 years after the de-commissioning of Babylon 5, races have emerged from previously unknown quadrants of space. With the sudden influx of new species into the galaxy, political strain, chaos and massive conflicts have once again appeared in the peaceful universe.
To add to the problem, the Psi-corp and its constant oppression of its telepathic human citizens has risen to civil war, often spanning onto other homeworlds where the telepaths have run for retreat. Furthermore, Ambassador Molari of the Centauri republic remains estranged to the rest of the galaxy, only appearing to dictate over his people and often times to command his fleet of ships to attack freighter and passenger ships.
The original League of Non-Aligned Worlds, along with the Minbari, Narn and human governments, quickly combined forces to bring together the different races on another plane of peace; Babylon 6.
In 2301, Babylon 6 had its christening. The planet it circles is Corlizan, an ore-less, bare piece of rock that had no value to any races until the station was built. Built with almost the same exact specs as Babylon 5, this station was made for one main purpose; a place of peace and prosperity, where trouble could be left at the door or resolved peacefully with the help of other races.
But of course nothing ever goes as is planned. Rogue telepaths have once again begun to live amongst the crowds. The Psi-corp appear every so often to weed them out with military force and the Centauri republic is ever-present, awaiting the chance to strike and begin an even stronger conflict.
The question is, how will you survive in these dangerous times?
Rules
1. You can feel free to take any role on the station except for Captain(I’ll be playing that one). The one rule is that if you introduce a species and want to be the ambassador for it, that world is automatically part of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds. No huge republics or governments are allowed to have their own separate seat like the Minbari, Narn, etc.
2. I’ve left it plenty open to make sure that you can introduce your own species, so feel free to make it furry or whatever.
3. If you want to make it that your species is in conflict with another, clear it with the original maker of the opposite species first.
4. Fighting is allowed and will most likely happen, but no god modding and be prepared for your character to face the consequences.
5. No characters from the show may be played. As far as I’m concerned they’re never coming to or visiting the new Babylon. It just gets too hairy trying to re-introduce main characters from the actual series.
6. I may add more later when I think of more.
7. Have fun!
And here’s the sheet for your character. I’ll add my own if there’s enough interest in playing.

Loved the show, but not seen the last two seasons yet. When I have, I'll check back and see if you're still wanting to do this. If you are, count me in ^^

Also was a fan of the show, but my memory's foggy. Give me a bit to refresh my knowledge of the series and I'll get back to you.
Psion's Signature The fandom can argue otherwise all it wishes but the simple truth is that there is no creature more curious then Man. For without Man, there could be no fandom.

Hello there. I believe I'd enjoy being involved in something like this, if it's still looking to roll. Perhaps a surviving Markab activist or a failed Anla'Shok recruit if they seem viable.

Re: Babylon 6
i'd a swore it was the smarmy centauri earth had ripped off deep space tech from, including b1 and possibly b2, even if 'we' did build b5, which is far from certain and between the bald heads and the guys with the spots it was the mentoring of bone heads as much as anything we had to thank for our survival of THAT drama.
if you've ever read gordy's wolfling, you may, as i seem to, recognize some of the prequil conditions that may have made b5 possible.
and while the eppisodes in the serious often centered around eath's interests, really the almost the whole point of the series as i see it, was that earth was NOT the center of the universe, but rather the new kids on the block.
learning fast maybe, at least those who learned how to get along and deal with alien cultures.
and everybody, earth and all the other worlds too, people made mistakes that later came back to bite them. i never saw the last couple of seasons but i'm pretty sure the shadows proved to be something other then infallable as well.
even if they did have some pretty cool living ships and trippy fx.
much closer to REAL s-f then media had come before, or likely since.
though toward the end of the season i did see it looked to be starting to devolve into horse and soap opera in space, which of course is what most of the other almost s-f on tube started out as from jump.
part of the problem may have been ellison getting old and possibly unwell. that's only a guess though.
at any rate, i'm all for b5's universe, if anybody wants to roll play nuts and bolts s-f, rather then shootem up perpetual war nonsense.

Re: Babylon 6
Oh man, I am SO sorry everyone! I actually completely forgot about this post until I received an e-mail today saying someone had posted here :p If we start the rp I promise that won't happen again! I'm bookmarking the page now and shoving it on my task bar so I'll check it every day.
And themnax, I completely agree with everything you said! Except that I don't believe it was really the mentoring of the Minbari that helped us out as much as them blowing our faces off for a while and making us all go 'Oh hey! Other strong things are out here too!' :p But yeah, as a friend of mine and I discussed, we kind of consider season four to be the end of the show. Like season 5 had so much potential but..I don't know, didn't work as well. Especially since they left everything so up to question.(I'm not totally prejudice against season 5 because Ivanova left, no wayyy)
Just in case everyone's still interested, I'll at least get thing swinging with my character description. Once we got a couple of characters made up I'll make the first post.
Name: Mia Helone
Age: 38
Gender: Female
Race: Serar
Description: From the odd assortment of colors and mixture of seemingly different mamalian creatures, Mia was easy to spot in a crowd. A pale yellow coated her top half, lined here and there by a mixture of green spots and stripes that trailed all the way down to her tail. Feline characteristics were obviously in the lean snout and large, pointed ears splashed with a large white spot on the back of each. Oddly enough, the feline traits stopped at her hips. From there on a coarser brown fur took over, covering digitigrade legs all the way down to the worn gray cloven hooves.
Most of the characteristics were unseen on a day-today basis though. Only neck, paws, tail and hooves were usually seen for the trim outfit she wore. The crisp black uniform showed a slim frame, the sleek gray lines augmenting the style and air of authority she presented for those who knew just what the wardrobe meant on the station.
Picture of her(though I imagine her looking much older than this): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1364855/
And uniform: http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/susan...b5/uniform.jpg
History: Long before she was born, the Serari were driven from their homeworld by combating races of greater technological power that desired turf for resources. Her people soon became nomadic, earning their keep among hundreds of starships of different and unique races. They were mostly known for their ability to negotiate and smooth over various problems in disputes. Mia was born on a ship and, following the path of her parents, learned the fine art of negotiation at a young age.
The skill became all the more useful when a large number of her people decided to take root on an uninhabited moon that became New Serari. The small base could hold few, but became its own sort of peace hub during her time their. But the Serari handled things differently than Babylon ever had. When all negotiation and other attempts were found to be futile, the Serari used brute force. They soon became known for their black ops and stealthy ability to run in and destroy those who they deemed unrighteous.
Mia earned her keep in both negotiations and ops, becoming a fleet commander by the age of 22. Many years down the line Babylon 6 was under construction and she was quick to jump on the chance to take her life on the new path presented. Under the pressure of the Minbari and humans to choose a neutral race, the Narn soon conceded to the idea and a few select were chosen as possible commanders.
Mia becoming the final pick is still under debate, for she was originally the second choice until the first candidate died of cardiac arrest only days before the final decision was made. Even further, despite the hundreds of disputes she settled peacefully, her fewer and darker resolutions leave a questionable light cast on her current position and if she will be able to handle the daunting tasks put on her peaceful manner.

Re: Babylon 6
thenag een lananara, a geology grad student from the little known world of lananara.
the old galactics, who look like like translucent green slugs, with the uncanny ability to walk, ooze would be a better description, through walls and other people's flesh without hurting either them or themselves or the walls, had told thenag, whom they called themnax, the name he was just begining to think about calling himself, though really almost identical to his self name anyway, to seek his fate and his future on b6. or maybe just that he'd cross paths with it there. it wasn't entirely clear what they had meant.
what was clear was that that a very old, very massive distributed system of artificial intelligence that was once the core of a much broader galactic united nations, which was even old, and perhapse a bit senile even before the old galactics evolved sentience, and they were older even then the shadows, or any other sentient species in the galaxy they or anyone, as far as he was awaire of anyway, and they'd made him aware of more things then he'd previously imagined, was reawakening itself.
this had come about through an encounter with one of its long forgotten access points on a world the university of nebithera deep space research vessel, elthoniel, on which themnax was doing his post graduate work on, visited in response to the then lananaran colony on that world's urgent distress call.
it came to be called the cathode plate affair, and that was how the old galactics had come to take an interest in him. and he to learn of their existence.
his appearance is basically that of the green cat guy in my avitar and several of the images posted here and elsewhere. such f.a. and vcl.
