New Member Convenience Links
I was wondering why none of the "Member Convenience Links" link to furry websites? Perhaps there should be links to WikiFur or Fur Affinity.

Well, if no-one uses them, either remove them or change them to more useful ones.

Well, I'm constantly going to be tweaking things around here. I've taken them off for now and if people miss them then I'll put them back up.

Nice one. A well made move IMO.

More logical would be links to things on the wiki like about XAP, a list of active RPs and other such related things. There really is little reason to include what would essentially be adverts with no revenue for sites and software that most users will know full well about in the first place.

What Iscin has here is what I was thinking when I saw the convenience links. Internal linkage, as opposed to external, maybe a couple of the popular picture galleries?

Bringing you websites with pride!
Re: New Member Convenience Links
Well, the thought, back when we were first putting this place together, was to have a lot of content - stuff to get peoples attention, and to hint at our member-oriented philosophy. We knew though that the site would eventually outgrow those old links - their content losing their usefulness as just the placeholders that they were.
With that in mind, we can have just about any kind of links that members want. Some of you have already put forward some ideas. Let's brainstorm a little more, on what could serve real purposes or member interests in side panel link boxes.

Havok: I never said I was ruling out free links, I just said I don't think links to things so obvious like wikipedia were in an way necessary and had become cluttering on the site as Chained Wolf initially pointed out.
We have quite a few artistic people in the house, I might start a new competition after new years. The goal: Create a convincing mockup for the site and the winner gets to help and see their design implemented best it can be once the new vBulletein is out and we can setup a web dev team.

Re: New Member Convenience Links
Since we do have a lot of RP's going on right now it might be a good use of a block if we featured a couple of them every two weeks or so. Maybe do the same with stories or galleries as was suggested.
As for vBulletin 4, there's going to be a lot that we can do with that that we couldn't with this version. For example, if someone posts a really great post in the forums a moderator or admin can promote that post to an article and it will show up on the frontpage. The shift from a block based CMS to an article based CMS is one that I think will benefit us in the long run. I know Odin's articles are perfect material for a frontpage, and as it is they're not getting the exposure they deserve.
