Mouth of Space
The vast openness of space was a mere demon licking its chops, awaiting a tasty morsel to come along so that it could swallow up whatever it pleased. Traps lurked in every corner, that is, if space had corners. Only heaps of rock and vicious blobs of gas settled within its confines. Small and big rocks created life, it evolved, and soon after, it invaded space. Space travel took its sweet time. Every system had it's different methods for traveling through the black shroud.
As time passed, species met species, had their wars, their peace treaties, argumentative governments. Hundreds of years wasted between disagreements on how intergalactic peace would be handled. Soon, there was enough agreement that appropriate laws for space were made. Though be it, there were several solar systems not willing to comply. Those are referred to as the "Red Zones". If ever at all possible, people would avoid those. Ships would leak in and out of the Red Zones, whether they were friendly or hostile. You can only protect borders if you're right there when someone escapes into friendly space. Otherwise, it was fair game. That's when the pirating started. Soon after, another war, only this one seemed to be endless. Alas, a new war, and a long one at that, it brings us to our story.
A frigate was making its way out to a distress call for need of repairs. The frigate was referred to as the tender class ship. Its main purpose is for repairs, and repairs only. Little did the attendees in the vessel know, they were heading into a trap.
The distress call: "We've sustained heavy damage from pirates, and are in need of immediate repairs. Life support is stable for the time being. The breaches in our outer hulls have started to hemorrhage air, it's in minimal need. Please respond....."
The call either seemed to cut off, or the captain of the ship was impatient. All the tender knew, it was time to go. Upon the tenders approach to the battle worn ship, a horrendous site loomed in behind. Not only was the dreadnought before them in need of repair, the vast black hole behind it told the repair crew they needed to hurry up.
Tyr had been rubbing a fresh blister on his arm from an electrical surge with some ointment. He heard the buzzer go off that told him he needed to report for duty. He grabbed his equipment together, strapping his tool belt around his waist, sticking his out of date primitive wrench in with the tools. He kept that for luck. As he stepped out onto the bridge of the ship, he saw the stunning swirling haze that was the black hole, threatening to eat the ship before them, and their own ship as well.
"We're gonna have to work fast, aren't we?" asked Tyr to the ships captain.
((I now leave this open. The position of captain is left plainly open, anyone is welcome to it. Hope to make this good, and hope to have some good players.))
The main point to this RP is to go in, repair the ship, save the crew. Sounds easy and simple, but it won't be. Ahead are things unseen, and there is very little time considering the fact of a black hole being so near.

(I'll give it a try.)
Ensign Stavanvic did his best to not blink or stare wide-eyed as he looked at the massive task before them. The Iron Resolution, the ship he and Tyr served on, was his first real command. Highest honors at the Academy of Engineering, a largely uneventful two years serving on the Stormbringer, and now he just finished command school.
"Helm, if the dreadnaught drifts too close to the event horizon, do we enough power to escape and jump back to hyperspace?" The ursine officer-fabricant asked his bridge crew. Idly he thought back to this one test in command school, a badly damaged cruiser had broadcasted a distress call. Responding to the cry for assistance was a trap, ignoring it was an action subject to review by superiors, what should you do?
Right now, Stav couldn't shake the same feeling of foreboding the first time he took that test, sitting down with his mock bridge crew and not knowing what to expect. Shoving the possibility of a hearing if he did choose to flee out of his mind, he wasn't going to walk into this trap without keeping all his options open...

Re: Mouth of Space
"According to readings, we have a six hour window to get the ship repaired, and be able to escape with both ships intact. The dreadnaught should have enough juice to blast out of here. Not unless the fuel lines have been damaged or tampered with, it'd be a safe bet we can do this," said the helmsman.
"Tight squeeze Stav,"said Tyr,"We'll need to assess the situation as quick as possible. I suggest we be on high alert for this one. Try hailing the ship."
The helmsman hit a summons button to the ship.
A low whine emitted when the screens turned on, a fuzzy picture at best. "Thi...Captain Cara....need immedi...repairs...crew...injured...." The screen faded out and went black.
"What's the orders sir?,"asked Tyr, a turn of concern on his face as he squeezed his holster, assuring his blaster was safe and ready. He thumbed over the butt of the gun, awaiting the orders.

Re: Mouth of Space
"Helm, bring us in for mooring but keep ready to leave at the first sign of trouble. If this is a trap, I want us gone the instant they try to spring it." The stout ursine sighed. "Have repair crews ready to board once we establish contact and assess the situation, make engine repair priority one. I do not want to work this close to a black hole."
He then looked at the kangaroo, his feet starting to carry him away from the bridge. "Tyr, get your tools and keep your blaster close. Let's make this a fast one." Stav ordered before getting his own kit together.

(Again, I'm making this guy up as I go along, if we need to change anything just note me)
Before heading to the airlock, Stav stopped to make sure he had all his tools. While leader of the ship, he was still an engineer at heart. Besides, the position the larger ship was in meant there wasn't time to waste "supervising" others.
Micro-fabricator, multi-spanner, universal screwdriver, plasma torch, and my sidearm, this should be enough.... It better be enough. The pudgy artificer, his ursine body barely "military standard," thought to himself as he shouldered the combi-pack containing an engineer's kit. As the two ships joined, he took a deep breath and took his first tentative step onto the foreign vessel.

Re: Mouth of Space
Something worried Stav as soon as they split up before the two of them headed to the bridge. "Where is the crew? Someone should have met us or walked by as we boarded. Something's not right." He lamented as the two of them ambled up to the bridge.
Dreadnaught designs being what they were, the two engineers found the lift to the bridge soon enough. As the two of them stepped in and took a ride up to the heart of the ship, the ensign couldn't help but wonder if the trap had already been sprung...

Re: Mouth of Space
"Just keep a steady eye open Stav. Lets not forget, the crew was injured, and I'm sure most of them are scattered through the ship trying to assist where they can,"said Tyr, pulling his blaster from his holster,"Can never be too sure though."
The lift came to a halt, but the doors didn't open. An ear wrenching sound greeted the ears of the two lift riders, along with a vibration that was enough to shake the whole ship.
Tyr pressed against the lift doors, trying to pry them apart. "No dice,"said the roo, he then pulled out a small communications device, and spoke into it,"Iron Resolution, this is Tyr, any pinpoint on what the noise was?" No answer,"Iron Resolution, are you there?"
Silence responded. "Damn it,"said Tyr, shoving the comm device back into his pocket, then he looked over at Stav with a weary look,"Lets get above the lift and go through the service tunnel. It should get us just above the bridge and we'll be able to drop in."

"I can afford to be paranoid Tyr. I plan on having a very long career, distinguished or no." the bear replied matter of fact, neither annoyance or arrogance in his voice.
As the lift came to a premature stop, Stav was already contemplating the possible problems. "Perhaps the blackhole is generating interferance?" He mused aloud while studying the ceiling of the elevator, looking for the access hatch.
"Well this certainly is not a good omen. Good thing my people were a strong race." The engineer muttered as he fudged with the panel to the elevator shaft.

Stav was heavy, the Ursids were always a heavy-set species. Fortunately, the bear was also quick on his feet and pulled himself up without trouble. Reaching back down to help Tyr climb after him, the shudder that ran through the ship nearly made him lose balance. "It feels like the dreadnaught's tearing itself apart. Is that the blackhole or something else?"

Stav grimaced as he got down on his knees to follow after the kangaroo. "I hate tight spaces." He muttered softly to himself, his ursine figure squeezing gently against the close confines of the metallic access shaft. When they finally arrived over the bridge, the engineer rolled his eyes. "I hope they don't shoot us for falling through their ceiling."

Re: Mouth of Space
Tyr popped the hatch open. The door dropped down, swinging on its hinges. No gun fire, nor voices. Tyr cautiously stuck his head down in to see. The bridge was relatively smoky, and some of the command stations had sparks flying out of them, where it seemed they had surged and erupted. Several bodies lay strewn out across the floor. "This doesn't look too good,"said Tyr, sitting back up, sticking his legs down the hole,"Let's go have a look." The kangaroo dropped down into the bridge, losing his footing as he landed on a loose railing and fell over with a loud clanging thud,"Damnit...." Tyr sat up on the floor rubbed his sleeve over his brows, then rubs his leg a bit from where he landed on it. Seemed fine.

Re: Mouth of Space
Stav noted Tyr's less then graceful landing and resolved to do better or at least not land right on top of the roo engineer. Squeezing through the vent in the ceiling, the ursine officer landed with another dull thud. Nothing injuried but his pride and nothing missing from his gear yet. "You alright Tyr?"

Re: Mouth of Space
The ensign didn't even hear Tyr as he took in the scene. With the captain dead and most of the crew gone with him from the looks of things, he already knew what had to be done.
"This is CO Stavanic Cherikcov to all Iron Resolution crew, immediately abandon your tasks and double back to the ship. I repeat, return to the Iron Resolution, can anyone hear me?" He called into his comm. link; not sure if it was any more reliable on the dreadnaught then it was hailing their frigate.
