Now, I didn't think I would be able to color this once I got the linework finished, but the company never showed up. And I had a lot of momentum once I got started, and I was having fun. Every single stroke just seemed to add to the whole. I couldn't stop!
(lol, just now my friend texted me asking if I still had time to hang out XD )
Now, in the future, I probably won't do this, but I trust Rick not to rip me off and not pay =P
So, I haven't received the money yet, and he said probably not until tomorrow or the weekend, but here is his commissioned ship!
Seriously, I think I found what I'm good at art wise. Even when I thought I was done, it felt like it was missing something, thought carefully, and then added something extra and made it look better!

Excellent job, Slate! I am going to get this sucker dolled up with a planet background tonight and get it presented in my "Insatiable Curiosity" thread.
Damn, Slate. Great job!

From start to finish, there wasn't a single moment that I didn't enjoy working on it! And I have to say, it took me just over 3 hours to color it, and the sketch and line work probably took less than 2 hours... so I'm improving on my speed as well!
But yes, I am indeed glad you like it, and I look forward to doing business with you again in the future ^,=,^
Very nice, reminds me vaguely of the Tau designs from Warhammer 40k. I tend to lean more towards sharp angles myself.
But then I'm still trying to base my freighters around the general appearance of trucks and actual sea-going freighters. Currently hitting a wall there...

The fandom can argue otherwise all it wishes but the simple truth is that there is no creature more curious then Man. For without Man, there could be no fandom.
Admittedly this is more of a question for Rick but what was the design inspiration behind the Insatiable? I do see elements of a tanker truck in the general shape but is that the real influence?

Well, it is a given that our imaginations are influenced by our real-life experiences. I am a trucker, so...

I thought so. I wasn't sure, but I thought so.

Well, it's almost a given, really. The Insatiable Curiosity's primary mission is hauling cargo?
Aside from that being a direct parallel with what I do for a living, it is the most logical way for a ship this massive to support itself.
But in answer to your question: yep, the Insatiable Curiosity does resemble a truck in a lot of ways - operational ways in particular. So yes, definitely, she is influenced by what I do for a living.

*nods* I just didn't really expect something that circular I guess. Most of my own freighter designs have turned into quite angular affairs. Lots of boxes, right triangles, and the like.

Well, I think that stems mostly from the notion that the drop ships aren't exactly cargo haulers. They were originally troop transports.
In fact, they don't really ferry cargo back and forth from the ship. Their main purpose are uses as liberty craft for the crew and as couriers and other such uses. Cargo is loaded and offloaded from the main ship by "shore-side" equipment - those being furnished by the docks at which the IC delivers.
