Firefox 3.6 is out

The latest version of Firefox is out. Version 3.6 seems to be quite the update.

It's had a lot of improvements done to it since 3.5 and it now seems to run quite a bit faster.

Tried it (on Mac at least) and I am unimpressed yet again.
Frankly I fell out with Firefox over a year back when I beta (alpha even thanks to FTP foolery) their 3.0 builds and found the poor cross-platform performance and lack of originality unnerving. I have been using Google Chrome since its first beta on my 18th birthday and have moved to it on Linux and Mac as well with the dev builds and recently made publicly available betas for those users.

I am sorry if this might seem a little anti-Firefox but honestly it's inferior to a rival like Chrome these days, Chrome is faster, smarter, more secure, better support on multiple platforms and now has full theming/extension/bookmark syncing support in the latest betas (which are VERY stable btw). Still think I'm barmy? Mozilla are now COPYING Google Chrome with their UI brainstorming for 4.0 with tabs like Chrome and are also now building on the open source code of separate-process tabs that make Chrome so stable and secure. Of course all this means more competition and open source things are always cool but the final thing that makes Chrome great for me? Chrome updates a HELL of a lot more and Mozilla are only just now getting their asses in gear so to speak.

Well, everyone's got their own preference of browsers. I happen to prefer Firefox because they are the only ones that have good Accessibility functions which I need. Chrome has none, Safari has none, IE has some, but IE is a horrid piece of tat that I wouldn't touch it.

So even if Chrome is better/faster/etc, it doesn't work for me.

And I have nothing against peoples' preferences... except if they use IE6... But the PEOPLE behind the browsers, frankly Mozila is the fat lazy one of the crop now, even the IE team's new engine for IE9 may knock Mozilla's "Gecko" and "Mozilla Framework" underneath it... the horror.

I have to say that this version is noticably snappier than the entire 3.5 tree. The forums in particular feel more responsive.

I'm glad that Google came along and released Chrome, since that has raised the bar for Mozilla to get their butts back in gear and really improve Firefox.

It's been good for me since it came out. The speed increase is noticable, though not earth-shaking in any way. It's just a good update, without too much else extra.

I'm still running 3.5, as the theme I want will at present only run on Mac or 3.6. It's a rather shallow reason, I know, but then I also have no great pressure to change yet.
