What do YOU want in the new site?

Hey folks!

As some of you know, Scififur.net is going to get an overhaul soon. I'd like to take this opportunity to ask your opinion on what you guys want to see in the new site?

It's going to be a lot of work to get this overhaul done, but I think that in the end we'll all reap the benefits.

So please, let me know what you guys would like to see and if it's possible I'll do my best to get those features in.

I'd quite like an option to turn off YT/Vimeo embedding and the thing that puts a W icon next to wiki links whenever i post them, please. Having to do it individually for every post is irritating.

Also an option to collapse the userstats and gamer info next to everyone's posts to just an avatar icon and a name, and condense sigs to take up as little vertical space as possible -- make it easier to read the content of people's posts without unnecessary scrolling. (Don't worry too much about this one, i could always write a Greasemonkey script if no-one else wants this). Should also shorten page load times a bit.

This is the thread he's refering to. Some very good ideas so far guys! Some of Dusty's and Bio's about the game tags are probably the best so far (Imo at least)

I'll see what I can do about the embedding thing. There should be some options in the user control panel, if not there might be in the newer version. Either way I'll look at this.

The gamercard and such will be different on the new forum. So don't worry about that.

Also I will make it so that signatures only show up once per page. Making the signatures themselves collapsable won't be too difficult either.

That would require two version of the site I think.... I'd personally just have the reduced user bars and signatures be a profile option. I personally have a fairly large monitor and faster internet but I know that others suffer from university bandwidth caps and such.

That would require two version of the site I think...

Or maybe just two stylesheets (discl: i am not a web developer).
It's not so much about monitor size as it is my poor RSI infested wrists.

I got the Monitor covered but I live on the back end of No where. :/ My connection normally just sucks to no end. And short of paying 80$ a month that i don't have that isn't changing anytime soon.

I've already got two styles picked out and purchased for the new site. One of them is very techy and will be the default style, but I also have a nice dark and simple style that I will have available as an alternate style. A lite style Is very possible. I could conceivably strip the postbit stylesheet down to remove signatures and avatars and any other unnecessary things.

Oh, and finally, a mobile style. This is something I do want to get implemented as well.

Yup, we do have that already. Go to your Profile Page and then click on the Statistics Tab. You'll see See all Posts and also all threads started by yourself.

I'm pretty sure FA forums runs on vbullitein as well. Its pretty much the standard for payed forum software.

I tried to look at the FA forums, but I couldn't get to them at the moment. When they're back up I'll have a look to see how they do it, but if they're running vBulletin then it's likely similar to what we already have.

That's just a placeholder for right now, themnax.

We're working on a complete graphical makeover of the site - but one which gets stalled occasionally, while work and/or school rises to consume our lives.

Everyone is going to see something happen with the paw. It just may... take a little while.
