Geek Pick: Google Chrome
So I have officially decided to switch off of Firefox to Google Chrome. Initially I thought it had problems with accessibility, but with a simple extension I can now toggle colors on sites to my heart's content.
I have to say, this browser is incredibly fast. I mean it, I've never seen anything load pages this quickly.
Go have a look and download Chrome.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
I was always a fan of Chrome, but I could not use it before. Now that there are some good accessibility extensions it changes everything. Well worth the switch. I particularly like how each tab is its own thread. So if Flash crashes (and let's face it, it happens a lot.) it won't clobber the entire browser, just that tab.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
I have been using Chrome for a good while too now. Over a year, in fact. I love how fast it is.

I am loving it, though I have to admit there are still some usability issues they need to resolve.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
Sorry to gravedig, but I thought this infinitely more appropriate than starting a new thread about this exact topic;
I have officially switched back to Firefox.
*Holds for horrified gasps*
That's right. I switched over to Chrome, didn't like the appearance, but then again I never like change, so I thought "I'll persevere", and I did. And I began to like it, and so when I got my new laptop I didn't even bother installing Firefox.
But.... now it has slowed down.
...
A lot.
I re-downloaded Firefox so I could access some stuff I couldn't on Chrome, and in doing so noticed it was much much faster than my Chrome. I say 'My Chrome' because it's possibly a connection issue on my end. I know MSN dies horribly because of my connection, and yet I can stream and download videos without interuption. It's an odd pick-and-choose situation, and something somewhere has chosen not to like Chrome.
So, anyone else experiencing a Chrome slow-down recently? I don't really want to have to get used to Firefox all over again, but there doesn't seem to be much choice

I break stuff.
Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
I tried Firefox and Chrome both in an attempt to speed up my browsing.
Neither one improved pageloads in any measurable sense.
Some times a slow connection is just a slow connection.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
I haven't had any noticeable slow-downs with chrome on my end.

Chrome. By Google. A browser for PC, Linux, and Mac *said in a sexy Indian accent*
I love Chrome, it's amazing. I switched to Chrome when I had my old computer because I had this nasty ad thing that had somehow latched itself to Firefox. But I never bothered switching back after I fixed it. I have noticed a few problems with Chrome, but nothing I haven't been able to fix easily. No real slowdowns either.

(I tried Chrome for a while but the (then) lack of extensibility was prohibitive. Browsing without AdBlock and friends is tiresome.)
Um, are you using a university ResNet? When i was i remember there was a bit of messing with proxy settings before things worked smoothly. Can't imagine why one browser would be effected but not another, tho.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
THankfully the extension library for Chrome is quite extensive now. So might want to give it another go. I kind of went back to Firefox myself though, Chrome's accessibility isn't great.

Have you tried Chromium? Its the open source version. Maybe it has some better extenders.

Re: Geek Pick: Google Chrome
Ooo sweet!
I was about to comment dismissively that Chrome's focus on lightweight design prevents extensions from doing stuff i want, like implementing a vertical tab bar, but then reading their UX docs it seems that they've considered the idea as part of the eventual OS/tabbed window manager thing.
This could be like the time they duplicated the Firebug extension's functionality as part of their browser, and made a way better version (in Chrome, hit shift-ctrl-I or select Inspect Element).
>Have you tried Chromium?
Um i think Chromium has less features than Chrome (aside from the ability to compile it yourself) since it's missing the proprietary bits.
